FILIPE,

Car topics that aren't about the GS belong in the "Car Chat" forum please. Moving yours there .

Oh, and if you plan to buy this car and absolutely drive it into the ground and then throw it into the trash compactor (and it's mechanically sound and a great deal) get it.

If you EVER think you would resell the car, don't get it.

It does not sound positive... especially the "salvage history" part. However, that's very vague and requires clear explaination. Why not just approach the person or company selling it and ask them what that means? All anyone on here can do is speculate.

If you tell us the model, year, amount of miles and the selling price, we might be able to draw some conclusions though.

For the most part, unless you have a Auto repair shop that you own, and are familiar with working on that vehicle STAY AWAY you dont know WHAT could have happened to the vehicle, and getting and honest answer may be a very hard thing to do.

dont take this personal, but that is not a good deal at all. first of all that means is was totaled. maybe by flood damage or whatever but it was a one time considered to cost more to fix than it was worth. i am in the car business and my dads owns a car dealership and i will tell you that salavage titled cars are worth 50-60% of orginal prices, so if your car is worth 25000, it might be worth 12500 with a salvage title. but that is my 2 cents. hope the car goes good for you and it will be almost impossible to sell. but good luck

You (she) need to know more about the car. Salvage titles imply that the vehicle has been totaled for some reason and then rebuilt and resold. If there was extensive sheetmetal damage, for instance, the car could have been totaled but can still be mechanically and structurally sound. Or it could have been a recovered stolen car. On the other hand, it could be flood damaged or crash damaged extensively. THESE last examples you should run away from.

Bottom line: you need to know why and how it was totaled. Failing that, don't TOUCH that car with the proverbial ten foot pole!!!!

Here is the meaing of word 'salvage' from Webster Online dictionary: property saved from destruction in a calamity (as a wreck or fire). I would stay away from a car with a salvage history.

Nope, not worth it at all bo. If what 00lexondub says is true about that being a totaled car (possible water damage, etc...) well, it is ABSOLUTLY not worth it! You may wind up dropping more than $15k inot that thing when all sorts of weird things start happening to the electrical system (if it was water damaged) or other mechanical mishaps occur OVER AND OVER! BMWs are awesome cars and last for an exceptionally long time. But like any other car, if it was totaled, it is subject to the same kinds of woes! But what makes it worse for you since it's a BMW is the fact that it is NOT cheep to fix... and fix... and fix... and fix... get my point?

Don't do it. Tell your girlfriend to buy a previously owned BMW or buy a Lex! You can't go wrong either way.

Default Don't waste $15,000

Take the $15,000 that either you or your girl friend would put into that "salvaged" car, use it as a down payment on a brand-new or Certified Pre-owned Lexus, and finance any balance you have after the down payment. That "salvage" special is a riskier undertaking than being one of Bill Clinton's interns.
