Default Run flats, love them or hate them

It sounds like a good idea, no flats, what's not to love?

However, members have posted in previous threads that some cars made with run flats have no spare tire included! Yikes.

I have no.opinion on this yet because I've never drivin a car with run flats.

Are run flats a good thing?

Make your best case here!
Put your dukes up but please no hitting below the belt! Lol

Granted run flats suck, IMO if a car is not or can not be equipped with a spare, it should come with run flats. I got screwed once and the psi went down fast from 40 to under 10 quickly. Luckily mine was run flat and I was able to drive to a nearby tire shop to get plugged. I had a donut spare too. I don't want to pull over to change it out if I can avoid it. Some brands give you the option to get a spare even when the car comes with run flats. Regardless, I ditched these run flats after about 15k I think for non run flats. They suck no doubt but if one doesn't mind changing sooner, I think they are still a good balanced choice.

My C8 Stingray and our X3 both have run-flats. I honestly am fine with the tires thanks to the peace of mind that I could drive a short distance on them. Our former 330i benefited from having run-flats when my wife and I were on a holiday trip. When we left our hotel, we noticed a razor blade sticking out of one of the tires. There was a BMW dealership only a few minutes away, and we were able to carefully drive over there to get the tire replaced without having to get out a single tool. That was nice.

Now, on the Vette, I probably will run non-run-flat tires eventually, but we'll see. The stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S ZP tires are not bad at all - very grippy and comfortable enough.

My experience with the OEM RF's was crappy (as were the tires) so off they came and on went good tires. I'm sure there are decent RF's but sure as hell not the ones Lexus buys.

Had OEM runflats on a few of our BMW 5 Series and swapped them out for non-RF every time with massive ride improvement. Our most recent X5 also came with runflats, but it rode comfortably enough that we never felt the need to make any change.

My previous BMW came with RFT and I didn't realize how bad they were until I bought some new non-RFT and the difference was night and day.

RFT were noisy, heavy, and had terrible grip.

I had Conti run flats on my Mercedes. Thankfully on the E class, the sidewall wasn't too bad, I think they were 45s. I never had a problem with comfort or noise, but the issue was hitting a huge pothole and they would just create a bulge because of the hardness.

Anyway, since I live in a big city and tire issues are a plenty, I actually prefer runflats and they saved me multiple times instead of being stuck on the side of the road.

Our BMW X3 has run flats and overall, I'm satisfied with them. When the time comes to replace them, I'm not sure what I'll do. I will be a while though. When special ordering it I got the spare tire option for something like $150.

I've never had RFTs on any vehicle, so have no personal experience.

The opinions I've seen have been about 90% against them to the 10% for them.

Yeah, that's a NO for us -- we won't ever be getting RFTs.
