I love the look of good leather, always have.
For my next car, I could go synthetic if it gjves me more options.
As long as it holds up as good or better.
Cloth is a deal killer for me, too hard to keep clean.
My 4Runner had cloth seats and almost impossible to remove the stains, rather have vinyl or leather.
Ps, I do feel bad about using hides of animals if they are farmed just for leather. I want to believe they come from food cows but now I'm not sure anymore.
I wouldn't feel bad about that at all, they get a premium life vs most animals in the world and leagues better than food cattle.
As long as we still eat real cows, I prefer real leather. They are mass produced through artificial insemination anyway, why waste the hides.
When the day arrive when the whole world or vast majority of it eat Frankenmeat, i.e.grown from cell tissues in the lab, then high quality fake leather would be fine with me.
ha ha. Frankenmeat. I wonder if mad cow disease has an effect/affect on a hide, at the end of the day.
I concur with you and others about the pain of keeping cloth clean.
And wool sounds like it would be good in winter vehicles, like salt trucks, perhaps. Could be itchy, but warm.
Yeah long term no question leather would hold up better
With proper care it's actually borderline insane how long leather can last. Most don't bother to care for it correctly though sadly enough, cloth though I just don't know if it's possible at all
However the IS500 nuluxe feels so good, I don't actually miss the leather any more.
While that may (?) no longer be the case today, when it first came out, Nuluxe, was without question, the best leather-substitute on the market. I was reviewing and test-driving a lot of vehicles at the time, and I was hard-pressed to tell the difference.

It's still really good for its class. I don't dislike it as an option in cheaper cars but for "real" cars I want proper leather
