Filler cap on my Tundra reads 5W-30 "Engery Conserving", not engine longevity. I'm going to ponder on that a while.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the previous post, to me at least, seemed to be a choice between either/or.

Be thankful this is (sadly) just another oil thread. You should see the ones discussed and debated on the motorcycle forums I visit about oil, brand, synth or semi synth or dino, weight and change interval, oil filter brands, air filter types and brands, tires, size and brand and how much air pressure to run, brake pad type and brand, drive chain type, lube it or not or how often to lube. It’s ridiculous, the same questions and answers over and over.

eating popcorn.

no idea why the LC manual said use conventional oil and not synthetic. i guess they just wanted to keep it all “old school”.

Sigh. When I started this I had that thought, but I told myself, "Yeah, this one will be different!"

Since I am tracking my LC I am going to run 15w-40, which is a diesel engine weight typically, but will be better suited for high temp protection and harshness of sustained high revving. Living in Florida the cold start weight is not really a factor.

I've also switched away from conventional and moved to synthetic, but I still keep my normal change intervals to 5k maximum.
Except for this weeks weather temps…...

Oil threads usually end up in chaos because its usually folks who want to learn, or have taken the time to review and understand publicly available information written by Toyota engineers vs those who either want to see others of likewise opinion, believe in feels or implications, or construct straw-man arguments to masquerade opinions as facts.

Hence choose your ownership style and enjoy in my previous post. No feelings need to be hurt to enjoy your style or to choose to learn.

15w40....I wonder what the ambient LC500 driver sees or why the engine builder recommended it. I'd take uoa, and trend data before id switch that high.
