Thumbs down Dodge Hornet....Sales Flop?

Has anyone on CL actually SEEN a Dodge Hornet on the road? I live in one of the top markets in the country for new vehicles, and I cannot remember the last time I saw one....if ever.

On paper, it competes with a number of other small compact and subcompact crossovers...(probably most closely with the ones from Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Ford)......but, in contrast to the relative success of the others, the Hornet does not seem to be selling at all. I'm guessing (but don't know this for a fact) that it is primarily two main factors.. One, a relatively high price for a mainstream-nameplate vehicle that size. Two, a relatively common concern about the build-quality and reliability of Stellantis products. The reliability of Dodge Chargers and Challengers got a lot better towards the end of their run as the problems were worked out over years of production..but that is not the case with the relatively new Hornet and its numerous Italian-sourced components.

I see a gray Hornet now and then in then in our employee parking lot, but that's the only one I've seen.

I actually saw one the other day on the way to Ocean City. I’ve seen a couple others but not many.

I was surprised to see that Dodge sold 20,554 (+120%) Hornets in the US 2024. I wonder where they are. Not sure about 2025 to date.

So here are the numbers through Q2. FCA sold 1,539 of them in Q2, down 62% year on year, and have sold 5,647 of them so far this year to date, down 52%. So not exactly flying off the lot.

I've seen a more than a few. What I can't understand is why anyone would pay MORE for this POS by buying the Alfa Romeo version which looks almost identical.

33% or something crazy. The PHEV was the one to get, especially a lease at i believe sub $100.

Are they still recalled/stop sale?

As @AJT123 has said, it probably would sell better with a hemi in it?

jk

Yes, you have a point about the Alfa Tonale version being very similar....except for the classic Alfa triangle-grille. It's also not a very good omen for the Hornet's potential reliability (as I mentioned in the OP) with all of those Italian-sourced parts. With the Alfa, though, you are paying for that upscale nameplate.

Saw one on the freeway today. I didn’t notice them before in the stream of CUVs it didn’t stand out.

Then I saw your thread and wanted to look for one and sure enough, saw one that looked greenish gray on the freeway as we passed it so wasn’t able to get a good pic.
