GM is finally owning up to the problem with cracking and warping C7 Z06/Grand Sport wheels. I received notice in the mail today that they will reimburse 100% of the cost for replacing any cracked or warped wheels. of course, that comes with some restrictions.
The damage and replacement must have happened in the first 4/48K from the in-service date of the factory warranty.
It must be proven that the damage did not happen due to a road hazard or impact. (Rather than potholes, my first thought when I read "impact" was curb jumping due to general jackassery leading to a loss of control.)
They prefer it if a GM dealer repaired or replaced the wheel. (I read this as only OEM replacements)
They will only reimburse out of pocket expenses up to the cost of an OEM wheel, so no full reimbursement if you replaced the wheels with light weight racing wheels.
Essentially, you need to prove the damage randomly happened in the course of normal driving, or that it happened on track since most of the warping and cracking complaints came from people tracking their cars. I am lucky that I never had the problem, but I know some vette guys who did, and this will be a welcomed, if long awaited payment. Though, I think GM was waiting until 4 years after C7 production ceased in order to cut down on the number of people who still had all of the proof GM wants in order to be reimbursed.
