Another sedan biting the dust.
On a side note, IMO it costs relatively little to produce both ES and GS, because ES is just a variation of Camry, while GS is just a variation of the JDM Toyota Crown!
Just different sheet metal, different alloy wheels, different interior plastic trims, and different spring/damper/roll bar rates.

The 4GS, 3IS and RC used an update of the original Toyota N Platform called the New Toyota N Platform.
Both Old and New Toyota N Platforms are very similarincluding the 112.2" wheelbase.
The 2012 New Toyota N Platform is not an all-new platform like the TNGA GA-L which 2017-onwards Lexus 5LS shares with 2018-23 and 2023-onwards Toyota Crowns.

your picture of the exterior makes it look particularly awful, with tiny wheelbase, giant front overhang, ugly white. epic fail.
I have to (basically) agree with bitkahuna on this one, although I will give Subaru credit for at least integrating the over-sized screen into the dash, and not just tacking it on, above the dash, like an old Etch-a-Sketch screen. Even Lincoln, which today is otherwise doing superbly well-crafted interiors with excellent and durable materials, falls victim to this habit.

From a driver's point of view, overall, IMHO the old layout was better, but the new layout does have some advantages. The older one could show more different information at the same time (for a quick scan), but the new version with the wide screen offers more of a choice on what can be displayed....things like oil temperature, transmission temperature, battery voltage, etc.....
MM probably won't be happy about this either.

That link doesn't tell the whole story. According to GMAuthority, an all-new Malibu is coming in a couple of years.

Good riddance to an absolutely horrible car. If there actually is a 10th gen for 2026/27 as the article claims, I hope it's a significant improvement. But I have my doubts, as GM Authority is the ONLY outlet that claims one is coming, and thy don't cite any source at GM for that information. Literally every other news organization simply reported the Malibu's demise.
There are some other sources, but they seem to be (mostly) AI-generated videos.....I didn't post them. This source, however, suggests it will be on the same platform as the new Buick Envista....the visual similarity is obvious.

I had a 9Gen Malibu as a loaner for a few days several years ago when the Lacrosse was getting a new climate-system part under warranty....considering what they cost, I did not find it a bad car at all. It was comfortable and drove well, although the interior was not as attractive as I would have liked, and not up to the level of the excellent 7Gen version.
We probably should start a new thread if we are going to keep discussing the Malibu.
