I think the dealer should definitely walk buyers through the use of the mechanical door latches at purchase.

Or they could just use door handles that work without having to teach people how they work.

On the RX I drove, I thought the operation of the handles was intuitively obvious. I thought it was clear you could pull it, just like any other car. Heck, it even has a decal next to it showing, with arrows, to pull on it. This isn’t rocket science…

Looking at the door release. I could see many uninformed people pulling on the emergency release, thinking that that’s how the door is supposed to be normally opened.
I wonder how many people got into a 2006 Ford Explorer for the first time and wondered how to open the door to get out.

I think buyers would get to used to it. I especially like the door pulls on the exterior. It’s about time Lexus got that Originally Posted by JDR76

My 1997 Viper GTS had electronic doors. Not too big of a deal as the manual emergency lever was pretty clearly labeled and visible at the top of the door pillar. My current Tesla also has electronic doors and the front manual door levers are also pretty easy to see which I don't have a problem with.
What I do have a problem with is my kids are in the back seat the the same visible manual door openers are not visible and if one didn't read the manual or didn't think about this (which I'm sure a vast majority of people don't do), they would have no clue how to open the back doors in an emergency situation. And where are they you might ask, they are under the back seat and you have to pull the carpet over to find them and it is a cable you pull. I think that is absolutely ridiculous and could be a life and death situation that no one really thinks about even if there is a 99.99% chance of something like that not occurring.

Yeah these manual door levers are hiddem, not obvious. You also have passengers in your cars who are not familiar with their operation...just a dumb idea,
Audi's electronic door handles are really well done, the electronic handle and emergency manual handle on the inside are one and the same and operate in the same manner, the only difference is that the emergency pull is just a further tug of the handle than the electronic pull. That should be the industry standard for all electronic door handles.
The RX/NX electronic door handles are somewhat counterintuitive because you would think they would need to be pulled to open like a regular door handle, but the pull is for the emergency while the push is standard operation.
