agreed! the 1sc also drove sportier than the 2sc which was heavy with a sloppy suspension. and remember the pie plates? lol

ah nice, and doesn't surprise me. i guess i just didn't find the silver/gray metal combo with the walnut appealing. but minor detail, still a fabulous interior.

Yeah the broker would have to order it. No negotiation, its basically a zero deal...might be $1,000 of profit in it.
struggling to process this. profit for whom? if the broker can't negotiate then why do you need a broker to order it?

about the broker deal you put on the table... did you ask the dealer how close they could get? also since you have several months left on current lease, they can't just eat it.

Part of the issue is there is a $5,000 loyalty rebate I don't qualify for, its for maturing leases through September. The broker is factoring it in because by the time the car comes in I will qualify.
...
The other issue is disposing of my car, I want to trade out of it, the broker complicates that because I won't have direct access to the dealer and they may be out of state...
complicated... sounds like you might as well just wait until closer to the end of the lease.

Exactly. I totally agree, 100% I noticed exactly the same thing in my own reviews, and previous ownership of a 2001 IS300. 2006-2007 was when noticeable cost-cutting started to take effect, interior materials started to cheapen and lighten up, the glass and body sheet metal seemed to get thinner, and overall build quality just seemed not the same as before. The peak was definitely the late-90s to mid-2000s.

Profit for the dealer. The broker orders it through a dealer. The broker charges me a fee, and then there’s some kickback on the dealer end also to get the unit and the volume even if there’s no profit in the sale itself. It’s all built on relationships they have with fleet departments at dealers all over the country.

about the broker deal you put on the table... did you ask the dealer how close they could get? also since you have several months left on current lease, they can't just eat it.
They can trade me out of it, it’s within striking distance, I think I can get $50k for it and I owe $52,400. The sales tax savings is $3,000 so if someone will give me $49,400 then I’m out of it clean. Every month that goes by the payoff will go down another $1,500. I also have a refund due me for the warranty I could throw in if I wanted to then someone would only have to give me $46,200.

The dealer was nowhere close. They were willing to give me $6k off the car, plus the $5,750 AMEX credit which is terrible. The car has about $17,000 in profit in it without the rebate including the holdback, plus the profit from the lease. Lease they came back with was $2,060 a month with $12,000 out of pocket. I actually laughed lol

I submitted a request to a company that buys cars wholesale off lease who a lot of brokers use. We’ll see what they offer me.

The dealers are just really not motivated in person, BMW is much more motivated, $20k comes right off. For me, I will pay a couple hundred more a month but honestly I'm not interested in paying over $2,000 a month for a car. I will just buy mine out and keep it...

No way, it will never die.
Bit, you can honestly say you never handbrake a turn?

Next you'll say you never burn rubber either. Haha

Ok, those days are behind me BUT if I was a young man, oh yeah.

Yep, it's even becoming quite uncommon on legit sports cars. Corvette hasn't had one since the C6, and the S650 Mustang now has a fake one. @Margate330 Get an Elantra N while you still can!

Today's Wizard video got me thinking. Was the 06-09 era "Peak Lexus"? The controversial spindle grille hadn't happened yet. The IS,GS,LS,GX and LX were all kicking ***. Just seemed like Lexus was firing on all cylinders at this time.
I’ve read a lot on this forum that Lexus uses real wood in their trims but the woman explaining the interior in this video keeps calling it faux wood. Regardless these older models interior shows how the quality of the interiors were better than the next generation.

I found them more intuitive than the push pedal kind. But everything has the electronic parking right now.

She was wrong, it’s real wood trim.

A very common misconception, that Lexus uses fake wood.

So I went by and drove some 7 Series. I can cross the 760 off the list. The powertrain isn't as refined as the S Class, and while it rides great it doesn't go down the road as solidly at highway speeds, its feels kind of nervous and twitchy. The i7 with the extra 1,000 lbs solves that issue. I really do like that car...I came away really thinking that was the direction to go in...

They had this M70 in the spec I would want (in a 60)

...then I stopped and drove an S580 again lol. Dealer in VA had one with the blue and the macchiato interior I wanted to see before I finalized my order, so I drove it. The 7 is better quality inside no doubt, but the S drives in a way that just feels "right" to me, so I feel confident thats the direction to go in. I laid the deal out on the table from the broker and told them if they could match the deal I would do it today...and they couldn't. So I guess I'm gonna order...
Do you think there's any chance this dealer might call you and be willing to negotiate something?

I doubt it. None of them have followed up with me really. It was funny because I ran into a guy at the dealer who I had talked to a few months ago when I had looked at the numbers and he was clearly a little frustrated I didn’t ask for him. I never heard from him, forgot he even existed and don’t remember his name lol. I’m a salesman, it’s my job to make people remember who I am and to want to seek me out.
