Yeah, I checked that. Maps wasn't set to avoid highways.

I just wanted to see what it's like 😄 . If I got one, it would be the Performance version ofcourse - just because.

You're right - I was a bit surprised at how roomy it is.

So, how is the S holding up now that it's getting a little long in the tooth?

It's ok considering it's 9 years old now.
  • Just had the last gen 1 door handle replaced out of warranty - $750 CAD.
  • Did some suspension work also recently - lower arms, upper arms etc ($5k approximately).
  • There's an annoying occasional rattling/creaking sound from the front right suspension that Tesla quoted $5k to fix (replace the air suspension). I declined as the car does not feel loose (steering or suspension wise). On the Tesla forums it seems to be a hit or miss replacing the air suspension that fixes it. I don't think Tesla knows what the issue is and is very quick to replace expensive components in the hope that it gets resolved.

That's been about it. No other costs such as brake repairs or anything else. I have just under 100k miles on it now.

Good to hear. That silver looks really good on the S.

How is the range holding up?

In the summer it's between 350 km and 380 km (220 miles to 235 miles. Original range when I got it in 2019 was 240 to 250 miles).

It's a 75D btw

Nice review. I agree, the new Y is a massive improvement over the prior generation (speaking as a 2021 owner myself). I'd like to test drive the new Performance so I can see ride quality in that compared to the Long Range (I also did an overnight test drive of a LR). I'd like to come to a conclusion on getting a new MYP or a '23 or '24 S soon. I'm hoping to do an overnight test drive of an S this week actually. I need to try one with the yoke and see what we think. It's not easy to find a '23 or '24 Y without the yoke for some reason. One of the weird things I need to check is to make sure the S fits in my garage - I have a big cabinet for storage in my garage and the Y fits, but the S is just over a foot longer.

Lease of MYP is $859/mo for 36 months, $3k down, and 15k miles/year. That seems hefty. Looks like purchase price is $58k, but I am not certain if that is factoring in "gas savings".

Looks awesome for a 9 year old car 👍That air suspension though is going to probably need to be changed after 100k

Unless it actually fails, I'm not going to do anything about it. Having driven the Y (not even the Performance model which has some upgrades that are "worth getting" depending on your perspective), I wouldn't even consider an S over it. It's that good.

Looks are subjective ofcourse and the S looks so much better, but the Y beats it from a value/features perspective hands down. No contest.

Especially in Canada, the S is overpriced at $140K CAD compared to the Y LR at $65K or even the Performance at $75K CAD.

Totally agree. I drove the Dual Motor Launch Edition, and was blown away. Like I said previously, I am tempted to trade in my Model 3 for a Y Performance, except I got such an amazing deal with all the discounts (including the $7500 tax credit) plus 0 percent financing, so it makes zero sense to trade in for the Y

to me the yoke is only good on te cybertruck with steer by wire / variable ratio. can't stand it on the s but like anything i'm sure people get used to it. if you don't care for the yolk, i expect you could have a wheel replacement done.

do you need 15kmi.yr? i'm guessing it's high as it's the shiny new thing. my y rwd premium is only half that! (but then i only have 10kmi./yr too)

Yes, ironically I was at the Tesla service center today asking about re-wrapping my steering wheel as a portion of it chipped/flaked off about a month ago. Only option is a wheel replacement at $850. So would be same price as replacing yoke. I initially went there due to tire monitoring sensor failure (my 2nd one in 9 months) and asked about the yoke replacement. Guy said it was easy, just at owner's expense obviously.

For lease mileage, yeah I just looked at the Tesla app and I've had my car 39 months and driven it 45,500 miles. So to be safe I'd do 15k miles/year.

My local Tesla center doesn't have MYP for test drive yet - said it would be late Jan or early Feb. I can take an S out for a few hours and make sure it fits in my garage, etc. But they apparently only put the yoke on Plaid models now... and they don't use Plaids for test drive vehicles.... so I really don't have a way of testing out the yoke unless I rent one on Turo for a day.

I agree. The only reason I'm considering an S over a new MYP is because of the looks. That's partially my thing, but 100% my wife's thing. She doesn't really like the Y at all cosmetically. She loves driving it, but doesn't care for the looks.

So here's a question. In the US, a new MYP is $58k (I learned today that they don't charge any extras on a MYP - any color exterior, interior, etc. - all same price). A late production 2023 HW4 S with roughly 40k miles in my market goes for about $50k and a 2024 S (also HW4) with 25k-30k miles is about $58k. Same price as a new MYP. So for the exact same price, would you go with a 2 year old S, or a brand new MYP? For what it's worth if I buy the S through Tesla it'll get an extra year of warranty on top of what is remaining.

In that case, if you can get the S with HW4 and its roughly in the same ballpark price, I would pick the S. HW4 came in mid 2023 I believe. That would be non-negotiable for me.
