Default Sirius/XM deals?

Anyone getting a decent Sirius/XM deal? Looks like they offer $5 a month for two years, and then $18.99 per month thereafter. But many say it pays to wait until your trial actually expires to get an even better deal.

Definitely wait until it stops. My last new car it worked for 4 years before I had to pay. It was only supposed to be 1 year.

Was that for one year? Was that a "no strings" renewal, because the teaser rate is $5 per month for (now) two years, but then it auto renews at $18.99 a month. It doesn't indicate a minimum commitment at that $18.99 a month, so its not clear if you can renegotiate at that time.

BTDT. You get the cheapest deal possible then call before it is supposed to renew and they renew the deal. Been doing that for years.

Canceling SiriusXM is one of the most frustrating experiences you will ever endure. If you sign up with them I'd recommend using a virtual one-time card number that expires once the initial charges are processed or which you can deactivate at any time. The SiriusXM business model, IMO, relies upon promotional plans that customers forget to cancel before the full price renewal. The virtual card number eliminates that risk by limiting the number of uses or the total amount that can be charged.

You should definitely wait. The trial in my '21 Ford truck expired in July of 2021, but it has never stopped working. They do keep sending me the $5/mo offers for it, though. It's actually the second time I've had XM for free. The last time was on a Pioneer unit I used in my boat. One year it was just working and continued to do so for another 5 years until I sold it.

Wait and hit them up on chat and state the offer that works best for you 1 year @ $60 or 99 depending on the package.

I've been doing the same song and dance for the last 5 years, if not longer.

Year after year I’ve gotten used to calling them and cancelling service until their spokesperson comes on the line to whom I say, how about renewing for what I’ve been paying, about $10 a month? She always agrees and that’s that, until next year.

Totally not cool. Lol

Reminds me of many years ago when I had to close my bank account and start a new one.

Gym membership and I moved and they were still taking monthy payments out over a year later.

I'd call and cancel and next month same thing again. Lol

Nobody but utility companies will ever get my bank info anymore for auto charges.

I haven't had that problem with a credit card but that's good advice @swajames .

I've been at $7 per month for six years on two different cars, but only after pressuring them and claiming hardship excuses. Seems to be working good.

Don't give them a credit card they can debit in case you forget to call prior to your renewal. Depending on the plan most of the 'introductory' plans will start billing at a higher rate automatically. I get the $5/month plan but make them send me a bill. One of the few things I pay with a check.

It's worth it to wait until your trial ends, but I've had satellite radio for 11 years now, and $5/mo is the best deal they offer, so if it's for 2 years, it may be worth taking it. Then set a reminder for 1 year, 11 months and 29 days, and call them and tell them you are going to cancel unless they renew at the promo rate.

This is not really a big deal. First, they don't bill you for a full year on auto renew any more; it's just monthly and you can cancel at any time and get a full refund of all prepaid fees. And I've forgotten to call to renegotiate, saw the credit card charge, called them the next day, and they put me back to the promo rate and credited my account for the charge they already processed.

You can 100% renegotiate. I've been doing it every year for multiple cars for the past 11 years.
