Asking for a 46% raise. 46%.

History repeats itself.

I'm always torn on these. I, myself, belong to a union (SPEEA). We haven't had a strike since 2000. I really do hope that continues, but I get nervous every time we have new contract negotiations.

uaw has been out of touch with reality forever since the gravy train was clearly going off the tracks decades ago.
of course they're fighting for all they can grab now and don't really care if ford/gm/stellantis go out of business, probably figuring there will be another bail out to buy votes.
biggest shake down ever.

meanwhile, that other upstart company in texas, california, berlin, shanghai and soon in mexico is figuring out how to vastly automate and cost reduce production ENORMOUSLY. and there's the coming chinese tidal wave of ev's i've written about several times. so go ahead uaw, fight for the best chairs on the titanics.

The union's request for pensions is probably more important in the long run than immediate big wage-hikes. Pensions are critically important for retirement...you can't realistically expect to live on just Social Security and the typically small IRAs.

In fact, at one time, American auto companies DID pay pensions....and still managed to make good profits while doing so. This idea that they cant afford to do so is nonsense.

Really? Because I remember car companies going bankrupt.

46% raise. 40 week pay for 32 work week with overtime after that. And a pension. Plus keeping existing 401K match.

THAT is BEYOND nonsense. Greed isn't limited to corporations.

I agree with Bob.
Let's make the distinction between pension and retirement plans. The union does have 401k and profit sharing retirement plans to which the car companies contribute, so members have these in addition to social security. They want a fixed pension plan funded by the companies. Note however that taxpayers, under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, are already on the hook for $92 Billion to bail out over-promised, mismanaged union pension plans.

The non-union auto worker doesn't pay more than the UAW auto worker. According to Indeed, the average UAW production worker makes $33/hour vs. $20~$22 for Toyota/Tesla. I support the pay raise, but not at that scale and I don't support the other demand. For the people I know, a union does not make them more engaged in work or increase productivity. It is doing the opposite.

According to the guys I know who work at Honda here they claim that they are paid better overall and a few them were from the domestics. I just went by what they told me
