Annual license fees
Illinois renewals jumped from $101 to $151 in 2020. I have email confirmations for 10 renewals at the $151 rate, and dozens at the $101 rate before that.

In TN, state tag renewal fee is $29, but each county adds its own fee as well. In my county combined renewal is $65, although I have a Support Our Troops specialty plate that is an additional $35 which is donated to the plate beneficiary.
However, the city does nothing to stop unregistered motorcycle/car that flooding every NYC street. These unregistered motorcyle/car often speeding, disobeying traffic rule, runs red light/STOP, and hit & run.

It's not necessarily my idea.....I'm just explaining the state law and Constitution. And, if you go back to the thread topic, our actual registration fees here in VA are quite low.....as are the personal property (car) taxes if your vehicle is old and not worth much.
Remember...although the last few years have distorted the market somewhat, traditionally, the average vehicle loses about half of its value in three years or so.

And, don't forget, in many states, if you have a vehicle that is at least 20-25 model-years old, you may not have to pay any registration fees of taxes at all.....it may qualify as an Antique, which means free or reduced-fee plates/registration, but, in some cases, also reduced-driving-privileges, manly to and from auto shows.
So what is your point? Yes, both states (PA and VA) have annual registration fees, and neither state has county income taxes...and the registration fee in VA is low by national standards. In VA, some counties have the property car-tax, others don't...it generally depends on the County Board's policies. But my point was that, for those counties in VA that do have the property-tax, it is usually because of the lack of an income tax. In PA, I can't say for sure because I don't know the laws there in detail, but it is probably a similar situation.

It's not bad in florida at all, approx $100+.
In fact, we have a local private tag service close by that does tags, notary, etc services and I let them renew my tags for me every year.
They tack on a $35 fee and it's worth every penny cuz there's never a line and I'm in & out in 5 mins.
They handle the renewal and call me when I can come pick up my new tag or registration.
If ya'll have a local store that does tag and license services, I highly recommend!

So might have the thread record (at least for now) because my truck just renewed and it was well over $1000. That's in part because the DMV treats trucks as commercial so you have an additional charge for that, in part because there's an EV charge added in lieu of gas taxes, and in part because the base renewal itself is based on the MSRP which for my truck was on the high side.
