MM Retro-Write-Up: First-Generation 1998-2003 Toyota Solara.
Were the base 4 cylinder engines in those interference engines?
My friend had one and the "engine blew" at only 180kish. Very low for a Toyota but I know she never touched the timing belt.

Toyota doesn't want you to know they made the Solara (link used to be active)

Avoid the 2.4L Solara at all costs early versions of 2AZ-FE are oil burning monsters. Engine has a timing chain and is interference but that is the least of your problems.

I thought the 4 cyl in the Solara was the Toyota 2200 that went into the Camrys of the time. Slower than hell but indestructible, which was why I was surprised her engine blew, but the TB probably just blew. And if it was non-interference, fix it and bam, good to go another 150k lol. She bought another car, though.
