My wife and I have been doing some research on EV's to replace her 2019 CX-5 Signature. We haven't yet driven everything out there, just a few that meet our price target (~$50-60k), like the Tesla Model Y, EV6 and the ID4. We also looked at the EV Mustang, but it was so uncomfortable to sit in, that we never even took it out on the road. Of the 3 we were initially leaning towards the ID4, since it drove very similar to our CX-5. Regenerative braking is very minimal in the normal setting, so it coasts when letting off the pedal like we're used to. It even looks like a typical CUV.
When we got home, I did some research online and it didn't take long to figure out that no one seems to like it. Complaints ranged from laggy infotainment, slow acceleration to being ugly. Yeah, it has it's quirks, like 2 button window controls for 4 windows and no mechanical buttons on the dash and steering wheel, just cap touch. But to me, it seemed easier to use than the Tesla's large tablet like screen. As far as speed, its 0-60 times are in the upper 5 second range. That's a little better than our current CX-5, which is no slouch. The Tesla and KIA were far superior in this regard, especially after I learned how to turn off "Chill" mode in the Y.
Any non EV haters out there that have driven a current Tennessee built ID4 have an opinion on it? The model we're considering is the AWD Pro S. They are actually selling for about $2k under sticker and qualifies for the full $7,500 rebate, which makes it even more appealing. Plus, they come with 3 years of free charging via Electrify America (30 minutes at a time).
VW's software was in shambles, I'm reading that recently they've fixed a bunch of long running issues (that required a dealer visit?). If you're looking for a seamless "just works" experience then the VW is probably not the best choice.
A coworker of mine has an early one and the only real complaint was around the infotainment. That said, she said she didn’t mess with it too much anyway so it wasn’t a dealbreaker. From a driving perspective, she really enjoyed it
I have no love or hate for the ID.4, except I've heard they haven't updated the software in a year. That's a no go for me, as OTA updates are very important in not only improving the efficiency, but performance as well. My Polestar 2 is a different car today than it was when I took delivery. In a good way due to OTA updates constantly making the car better
Agree on the OTA updates. I’ve not heard good stories from the VW side but my coworker didn’t even know OTA updates were a thing so no worries from her side

Good point that I haven't seen mentioned in the reviews I've seen. I have read that they're planning a major update to the '24 model and have stopped producing the 23's. Could be why they're trying to push the remaining stock out quickly.
I've never leased a vehicle in my life and have never thought it was a good idea. That may change with my first EV. If I don't have a good experience, I just give it back at 3 years. If I like it, I buy it out. Current thinking is, buy the Model Y, or lease something else. It's too bad Tesla doesn't allow lease buyouts. I think it is a much lower risk buying a Tesla, though.

I would lease any other EV on the market except Tesla, which is the only EV I would buy. Both my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV and 2022 Polestar are three year leases, while I outright bought my Model Y
ID.4 is a well-rounded EV. No, it doesn't have blistering acceleration, but it's a well-proportioned interior and fine EV with good handling. I'd take one over the Tiguan right now. Sure there are others that accelerate quicker or charge at a faster rate, but it's certainly good for its size and price point. Better than the Toyota bZ4X in my opinion.

I swear unless that man was a poser and smacked an ID4 badge on the trunk lid in the Black ID4 I posted above, I never knew that was an EV.
Ok, I watched your video and was sad for VW.
BUT, BUT, BUT, there may be a way out for them, I don't know.
How about this, since the car looks good and not aggressively styled in a futuristic way- they can yank out the Android Auto and voice
commands and everything that's broke and bogging down their interface and just put in a simple Bluetooth that can connect properly.
I mean, my $20 wireless earbuds can connect every time in a couple seconds. lol
All that to say, maybe, maybe they is a place for a small fun EV like this that looks like a standard ICE and without all the high tech stuff.
Basically a stripped down EV, but a little sporty and a little range.
Not sure if it will sell but may lower people's expectations when the car's stuff doesn't work good, why sell something that is broke, just spitballing.

ROFL, yeah, uh no... just put a faster processor in.

what do you mean by 'high tech' that it can do without?
