This probably goes without saying for most people, but, for those who are not aware of it, one should never put things on the dashboard of an airbag-equipped vehicle. They can either become missiles when the bag fires, or, if body parts are involved, can cause very serious injuries. Here is a gruesome X-Ray of an injury-dislocation sustained when a person put their feet up on the dash and the air bag fired.

Police have shared a shocking image of a car crash victim’s injuries in an effort to stop passengers putting their feet on a car’s dashboard.

The horrifying X-ray shows the pelvis of a front seat passenger who was resting her feet on the dash in a moving car when it was involved in a crash.

One hip is completely dislocated while the other is broken. Reports also suggest she suffered several other fractures to her legs.
Sergeant Ian Price of Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales shared the image to highlight the risks of not sitting properly while travelling.

Posting the picture, which was originally shared on an ambulance service Facebook group, he wrote: “Here is an X-ray of horrific injuries sustained to the front seat passenger who had their feet on the dashboard at the time of a collision.

“If you see your passenger doing it stop driving and show them this.”

He later added: “The objective in my post here is to educate and prevent significant harm to others,” and encouraged other users to share the image.

There is no law against sitting with your feet on the dashboard but the image is the latest example of the dangers it poses.

In 2006 an Irish woman suffered brain damage and had to have the bone in her forehead removed after fracturing it in a crash. Grainne Kealy had her feet on the dashboard of her boyfriend’s Jeep when it crashed and caused the airbag to deploy. The force of the airbag slammed her knees into her face, shattering every bone in her face. A subsequent infection forced doctors to remove the bone from her forehead and replace it with a ceramic plate.

Airbags are small bombs. Seriously, they can easily throw you 6ft in the air if you are sitting on one.

I've been telling people this for decades. Amazing driver's ed has not nailed it into people's heads.
Along the same lines, I see tons of people with dogs in their laps while driving. Just ridiculous risk and lack of care for the animal.

I knew airbags could do some damage but didn't really think this was possible. I rarely ever have a passenger in my car. The seats still look brand new.
