bmw xm suv
That of course, raises the question of who, exactly is the target market that wants to hustle a 6,000 lb behemoth through the twisties. But I think they achieved their goal with the suspension. I don't agree with the goal, but it seems they did hit it.
This is for the Chinese market first and foremost just like the i7, as far as performance goes just like the rest of their lineup it is secondary to being flashy. If they really cared it would have had a fully active suspension as well as being lighter.
an M super heavy phev suv does seem kinda silly. i guess they're trying to steal some of the pie from the gls63, lambo urus, and cayenne turbo market...
those others to me are a million times better looking than this mad max monstrosity.

I see comments about this being designed for the Chinese market, I doubt it as it's a twin turbo V8 which would be taxed out the wazzoo in China, even if it is a hybrid. It seems more like BMW wants to mimic the Urus but took all the wrong lessons from it, instead making it more obnoxious.
BMW has difficulties selling with their recent ultra-luxury products. The current 8 Series was essentially a flop and while I think this will do better on the basis of being an SUV, I don't see it bringing in more audiences than an X7.

If someone in China wants to flex with a BMW product, they're much more likely to get an i7 that can chauffeur them around.
You don't understand the Chinese market. The Chinese consumer base for luxury vehicles only cares about the outward appearance and space, which is why a Maybach can be sold with a six-cylinder there. There is little to no demand in China for vehicles like M3's regardless of how much they cost or how high their performance is because it is the antithesis of their wealthy image. Most of the wealthy don't even drive their cars.

Unfortunately you're not wrong here. At my last visit, I see they put heavy discounts on 8 and iX. I read X9 might be on horizon. So maybe this is the better product for Chinese market as you mentioned below. And yes even the so so wealthy/business man/woman have drivers. It's quite common in many countries over there.
I expect the same with this XM - no dealer wants $160k product collecting dust on their showroom. It doesn’t excel in performance, styling, luxury or efficiency. It also doesn’t speak to BMW’s M buyers. Complete and utter fail.
The Alpina X7 is much more desirable imo.
Btw all the electric models are not selling at all - iX, i4

Nope you are correct. They don't drive correctly and lack the same feeling
