Technically, you are supposed to let the cars merge into the traffic. But it seems you did the one car, so the other guy should have just slowed a little and merge behind you. Oh well, I get that on the 404 all the time, that is why I move to the center lane when approaching incoming merging lanes.

no

he was way behind me when i let the camry in
then you hear the mazda5 floors it to squeeze in front of me
there were no cars behind me in my lane this whole time

and i can't merge left with cars coming up from behind not to mention my exit coming up (hwy 7)

People get too stubborn with this merging thing, I see it so, so often. It's the "Let me in or else" vs "I'm not budging". The guy merging did so poorly, if he really wanted to get in front he should have taken his thumb out, and got his POS moving. Yes, a lot of people are really crappy at knowing how to merge well, either jamming into a tight spot instead of a wide open spot 1 or 2 cars behind, or deciding it's fine to merge at 60kph into a traffic flow going at 110kph.

On the other hand, would it really have hurt to ease off the gas pedal for a couple of seconds. There are no lessons that will be learned trying to make things difficult.

not only did i ease off the gas pedal but also had to brake
he would've hit me if i didn't
he wasn't slowly merging into my lane
he floored his car and showed up beside me out of nowhere
