Hi - I wanted to purchase a new IS350, I noticed after getting all the options I want etc... that if I was to purchase the same car from the USA I'd save ~$10k. I live in Toronto and I can definatley make the trip to the nearest place (should be like 80-90 min drive or so). I'm wondering what kind of costs / paperwork would should I expect / where can I get more infomatio.
Also how can I find the nearest american lexus dealership to my location? I immagine it would be somewhere in Niagara falls, but I am not sure. I currently live in Scarbrough Toronto*
be sure to factor the tax coming back plus DUTY (if the car isn't made in NAFTA which it clearly is not).
warranty is another consideration, you should check whether the lexus warranty is transferable to Canada, if not, you will have to go to the US for all warranty work.
Another issue is whether you can even buy one or not, I've heard many stories that dealers near the US/Canada border will NOT sell NEW cars to Canadian citizens, don't know if this is true of Lexus. This is not so much their choice as the manufacturers protecting their businesses and pricing policies.
find a dealer... look at a map, find the closest/furthest city you're willing to go to and post in that forum, OR find the zip code for that forum and go to lexus.com and "Find a dealer"
I think the closest Lexus dealership in the US to you will be in Amherst, NY (Northtown Lexus), which is just outside Niagara Falls.
I recommend calling them first to see if they'll even sell a new Lexus to someone who plans to export it directly to Canada.
6.1% duty, GST, and PST apply. Oh, and Excise Tax of $100 for the Air Conditioning. It will irritate you to know that the GST is also assessed on the duty and excise amounts...yes...it's true...compounding tax. The PST is collected when you licence the vehicle.
Did you get the adjusted pricing? I could've sworn that the adjusted pricing (if you look at the OTD figure) made the Canadian purchase more "worth it". i.e. the difference between importing and buying in Canada is now only a few hundred dollars, one thousand at most.
