After having the Tom’s filter in the car for 2 years without even looking at it (approximately 16,000mi) I decided to remove it and clean it. Honestly it looked pretty damn clean compared to what I was expecting to see. The filter media seems to filter well and trapped some larger debris (mostly grass clippings) and the smaller media didn’t seem to have much dust in it as it rinsed clear when I washed it. And the red side is just as red as when I bought it. Not faded or anything.

But while I was adding soap to it and working it in I noticed the rubber starting to separate from the filter on the edge. So just out of paranoia I ordered another Tom’s filter. After seeing the condition of this filter after 2 years I’m definitely going to stick with this type of element on the car.

I’m sure I can still use this one, but it’s always going to be in the back of my mind what if the rubber starts to break off and goes through the engine. So just sharing in case nobody has seen this before with the Tom’s filter.

Acquired a set of Project Mu pads, and another set of OEM pads/rotors that came off a friends car that switched to 2 piece RB rotors. Gonna throw these on when the OEM pads are done.

Interesting the rear pads don't have the anti-squeal weights on them. I've wondered about those for some time.

This piece is one that I’ve wanted for a long time. Pretty much since I started the journey with this car, but didn’t want to shell out the money for at first. Well, long story short I discovered it was cheaper to order it directly from Japan and saved about $100 on it so I said screw it.

Just a few more pics of this piece. It’s pretty crazy that for as much as they ask for these things the only pictures of it are the same 2 or 3 stock images on most of the vendor sites. I did find better pics of it when I was shopping around for one. But you really have to look to find good pictures of it.

Side by side of the old HPS tube vs the Tom’s. I didn’t measure but I think they are both the same diameter. What’s not pictured is how the left nipple on my HPS tube came out while I was removing it.

I honestly expected the inside of this to be smooth. But it’s definitely not.

Not a fan of that design looking at the internals. Looks like a turbulence generator the way the feeds for the valve covers are built, and yes, it seems really odd they didn't make the interior walls smooth too. Might be one of those visual performance mods.

This is the part description from Tom's website.

Change the curved part from the standard bellows shape to the flat shape to reduce the suction resistance. In addition, the use of hard carbon as the material improves the reduction of the intake port due to the negative pressure.
Lacey real carbon also contributes to dressing up in the engine room.

Did you notice a difference in performance, sound, etc. between the HPS and the TOMS?

I haven't driven it since I put it on, but I'm willing to bet I wouldn't notice a difference that is large enough to quantify. And I have headers so I don't really hear an induction note anymore.

I was actually out and about in the car this morning and I want to believe it is a placebo in my mind. But the car did feel noticeably more responsive and quicker. I don’t have data to back this up yet because I did t bring my dragy with me this morning. But I do feel like it may make a performance difference over the HPS intake I had on the car.

Also it is designed differently than any other intake on the market, so there’s a reason behind it I just don’t know what the reason is.

Just pulled the trigger on some more Tom's goodies for the car. I was able to get it all from one place fortunately because when I was looking for the parts Apex'i did not have everything I wanted in stock. Luckily Steven at Mod In Japan had everything in stock except for one part and that part was due to arrive in a few days. So we went ahead with the order. I can't wait for everything to come in so I can unbox it all and take pictures before installing.

Great choice going with Tom’s! You will love it, trust me😎. What did you end up getting from Toms Racing?
