The Bastard- Supra MkIV Lexus edition
LHD conversion of a -93 jdm Supra mkIV with parts from a -92 SC300
Introduction
This is a project that I started last year,, when I found a sc300 rolling chassie with a rear end damage . These cars are rare here in Sweden, so I just had to buy it. I bought it for spares, not having any other specific plans at first
Donor car with rear end damage. -92 auto sc300
The interior and the front of the sc chassie was in pretty good condition. Engine, tranny, diff and exhaust was gone. but other than that it was complete. 3 keys included. Ac lines and ps lines had been cut when they took the engine out..
When I was taking it apart I was´nt quite sure what to do with the parts, For a while I was thinking of doing a LHD conversion of a Soarer. Then I started to think of the Supra. Would it be possible to merge these parts with a Supra? Converting a RHD supra into LHD with these parts?
As we all know, the SC and the Supra mkIV share a lot of parts. I knew that the wheels, brakes, steering rack and seats where interchangeable, but didn´t know how is was with the rest. The firewall looked the same when I compared it. All the bolt holes in the engine bay was the same I googled a lot but couldn´t find anything about this conversion being done before (maybe it has, but I haven´t found any). I wasn´t sure just how much work it would take to make it happen.
There are a lot of jdm Supras here in Europe. Many are brought to the U.K, and then exported to the rest of Europe. The RHD Supras is about half the price of a LHD euro/US car.
In january -15, I decided to give it a chance. and started to look for a jdm Supra chassie. I thought it was more economical to try this on a rolling chassie instead of a complete car. Then I wouldn´t loose that much money if it would turn into a fiasco.
Why not buy a LHD Supra in the first place you might ask? Of course this is the most sensible route to go. but I´m cheap and also wanted a bit of a challenge. First most I am a SC/Soarer fan, so for me a Supra with a SC interior would be an improved Supra
. I know that some Supra fans might disagree with this, but that´s ok.A US/Euro spec manual tt in decent condition starts at ca 25000USD here in Sweden. My goal has been to build a LHD manual tt from a RHD car for half of that amount.
BUYING THE SUPRA CHASSIE
In January -15 I found a rolling shell that was in ok condition.
A -93 jdm manual tt with the engine and tranny gone. , No prop shaft. No exhaust. Some other small bits and pieces where missing as well. Stock rims painted black and in bad condition..The car had been repainted, but it was quite well done in general. The engine bay was ugly. They had repainted it without cleaning it up before
Black OEM hood. I guess they wanted it to look like a carbon fiber hood.?
The head lights was the plastic jdm version wich they had opened up and adapted to right hand traffic.

Breaking the SC300 for parts
It was fun to dismantle a car completely. I started with the interior
As you see, it was in pretty good condition on the inside. The drivers seat was worn, but no cracks in the leather.
the 2jz auto ecu and the abs ecu
Heater/ac unit. traction controll ecu to the right
I took a lot of photos, trying to document everything as detailed as possible. Marked everything up and saved all bolts and nuts in zip loc bags

Removing the protection over the air intake. I used a weld spot drill most of the time, but sometimes the plasma cutter. A plasma cutter is a very manly tool
. Extremely fun. Like cutting in butter.

: Dismantling the supra
The next phase in the project was to remove everything RHD related on the supra chassie. I also decided to use the sc body harness, wich meant that pretty much everything had to be removed. I started with the interior:
Supra oem seat
Gauge cluster removed

Dismantling the supra
dash board removed
dash board support removed
Centre console removed
center console removed. The airbag ecu is in a different place compared to the SC. It´s Behind the parking break and shifter. This made me worried, that it wouldn´t be possible to use the SC ecu.
