Losiracer2: 1997 Lexus LS400
Hey everyone, My name's Kai. Brand new LS400 owner as of 2 weeks ago. I'm coming from the 4th gen Honda Accord scene (CB7Tuner), with hopes of having this ride as a very nice daily driver. I did some research and I think I've got Kozy's car and am loving the subtle modifications he's done to it (rear muffler delete with Vibrant 3.5" tips) really opens up the 1UZ-FE exhaust note in a classy way.
The car was purchased with 253k miles on the odometer. Ran perfectly fine with no check engine lights or hesitation or missing. Needed an oil change bad, oil had 9k miles and was starting to change consistency, if you will, so i did an immediate Mobil 1 Extended Performance with Fram XG3600 big filter to take advantage of the longer interval.
Changed out the air filter and discovered that the lower rad. hose was rubbing on the PS pump pulley so that and the upper hose changed. Little did I know the bleeding procedure on this car is different than my Accord and I nearly overheated it the 2nd day I owned it
But everything is bled properly now, with 1.5 gallons of Zerex Asian gulped down.
I purchased some Enkei LX-M 20x8.5 w/ 245/35R20 tires about a week later that I got a STEAL on. I mean like cheaper than you can even get 1 tire for, so i jumped at the opportunity.
I've replaced all the pesky 168 and 194 wedge bulbs that blew out in the corners that the previous owners were too lazy or afraid (due to the age of the plastic, to do) I also upgraded the fog lights to a super white 5000k 9006 HID kit, corners to Sylvania ZEVO 6000k LEDs and the low beams to Philips Xtra Vision high performance Halogens. MUCH better output at night.
I'm about to do the Lower Balljoints, since there is noticeable play and clunking in the front end over bumps. I'm glad that Kozy did the strut rods, front and rear brakes with sensors, battery, radiator, alternator, hood struts, and limo tintvprior to owning the car, so thanks for saving me tons of money bro!
I recently had the chance to take a photo-op with Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus LS400 this past weekend, he (well current caretaker) even let me drive it too!
I can already tell I'm going to love this car and the many fun projects I'll have with it. I just cant get over the Lexus build quality, with over a quarter millon miles, NO creaks or rattles in the interior!
Pics of when I first got the car and with the Million Mile Lexus, currently sitting at 922,134 miles after I drove it

Matt's gauge cluster with over 922k miles! INSANE!!!!

Log Book Matt has anyone who drives the car fill out. My keys on right, his on left.

That amount is a little off, I think he had to put in a new transmission recently which might have exceeded the cost of the car LOL

My entry....I feel so humbled to be logging my entry in along with famous automotive journalists, such as Jalopnik and Tyson Hugie (guy with 540k mile Acura Legend Coupe)

New photo after I got my car back up and running. Needed a crank seal that started puking oil on Nov. 2, earlier this month. Bought an Aisin TB/WP kit and new Cam/Crank seals from Toyota, along with a new Thermostat and she's purring like a kitten again.
Washed and detailed her the other night:

now, I can't wait to install the all clear Depot glass headlights, corners and bumper lights I found at a salvage yard along with fixing the power antenna mast.

welcome, and maybe you can remember my screen name from the cb7tuner days as well. i still have my CB coupe, though with a spun bearing in the garage. similarly i also have a white 97! like what they say, great minds...
congrats on getting to see and drive the million mile lexus. it would have been cool so see it go to a million on the original trans! love the new headlights, which i plan to do soon as well. do the depo corners take 194 bulbs or are they a dual filament bulb?

Yeah, it was unfortunate, I think Matt paid 2,000 to fix the tranny in his LS400. When I drove it, it shifted so smooth and without any hesitation at any speed or throttle application. There's no doubt the engine will make it to the million, it felt strong. Interior was pretty beat, door panel was worn out in the armrest area and the steering wheel was painted a light creme color, which looked odd. Carpet and floor mat were well worn as well. But the car drove mechanically sound with no squeaks or rattles.
The corners take either a 168 bulb or a 194 bulb, both single filament, I think they're very similar, wattage might vary by a few. I installed my Sylvania LED Zevo bulbs in there, which in the factory housings were good since they didn't have a reflector blocking it in front but these Depo ones do, so that reduces the effectiveness of them somewhat. I might look into getting a 360 degree LED type wedge bulb to scatter the light in the housing more vs. the focused one I have now. I was considering putting back the factory corners, but i'm not sure yet.

Also added some All LED Tails that i found on Craigslist. The guy had them directly imported from UP GARAGE in Japan. These things really are BRIGHT and light up anything behind me in a vibrant red.

So Something totally unexpected happened this past monday, my battery, which was only 11 months old, died completely. The night before, it was running and driving perfectly. Luckily, the previous owner had purchased it and supplied me with the warranty and receipt in the glove box.
I took it to Batteries Plus and swapped it out free of charge thanks to the 2 yr free replacement warranty. Good thing too, a new Group 24 battery there was 105 bucks.
I also found a smoking deal on a Xentec H4/9003 Bi-Xenon HID kit with Hi/Lo beams. 30 bucks New in box! I kinda wished it was a 6000k kit but the slightly bluer 8000k color is growing on me.
It took a couple tries to get the wiring right for the Hi/Lo positions since I didn't know which was which, but it wasn't difficult at all to install. I say it took 45 min tops.

I forgot to update, but I changed up the look of my LS a bit by adding some 18" SC430 chrome wheels. I think it looks a bit sportier now and it definitely rides better with the 18s and 235/45/18 tires.

I also fixed my P0770 Lock up solenoid issue w/ a good condition JY one. Car drives how it should now. I can't believe I put that off for as long as I did.
