Arrow Project 1990 LS400: Performance Mods

Hey Everyone!

I have a 1990 first gen LS400 - Beautiful car! And, it is my secondary car, so now I have some $$$ and some time to make it a freakin' fast car!

So my question is... where do I start?
My lexus is completely stock. I want to spend my $$$ to get the greatest Horsepower, Speed, and Torque Boost (I'll even entertain NOS).

- Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

3000, not much for a LOT of hp, u can do headers, custom exhaust, mild intake mods, torque convt., and an SAFC+tune.

this is assuming you do a decent bit of work urself.

I think you need to set some goals first, figgure out what kind of performance level you want. You just want it to be faster than stock? Want it to be able to beat <insert car here> or run a specific 1/4 mile time? Then when you know what you want figgure out how much power it will take to push our heavy LS400's to those speeds in the times you want. I don't want to give out bad news but our cars are heavy, something that works against you when you want performance. Then when you know what you want and what its gonna take to get there, then begin planning your build.

There are many Aussies running stock motor and 7psi M90 blower to get around 350HP. Semi kits are available and they will ship to our side of the pond.
Check out Rush imports in Australia.

Once you factor in the cost of a used blower, it will run around $3k. This is the cheapest way to get power without building your own turbo system.

Don't hate me, but why? It's a lexus and an LS, not even SC. Just don't do it! The only way I will do it is if I can swap the supra engine in. That's it. You will waste $3,000 and find yourself 1 second faster. Might as well, sell the LS, get you a talon, and spend all that money. Performance, Luxury and Budget. PICK TWO.

why? why not.

the 1uz is pretty tough from the factory... do your own work and it would be easy. not many here have the ability to however.

tuning the 1UZ is an expensive proposition but it is gettng better since we are getting some companies to MAKE things, instead of having to go completley custom.

that being said, parts are still a LOT more expensive than they are for a 2jz.

I'd swap out the 4.3 or 4.0 from newer Lex with VVTI. I have both LS400 and GS430, and theres crazy difference in power.
