Is polishing alloy rims similar to polishing aluminum rims?

Aluminum wheels and alloy wheels refer the same thing. The metal they are made of is an aluminum alloy (approx 85-99% aluminum, with other elements like magnesium and silicon making up the rest).
Strictly speaking, wheels which were made primarily of magnesium and steel could be called alloy as well, but when people say "alloy wheel" they almost always mean aluminum alloy.
