Default Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax

Hi Guys-

I recently went on a road trip from So-Cal to Las Vegas as described in this post linked here.

I took the advice of a few members and used Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax. I applied per the instructions, with an applicator pad then wiped off with a microfiber towel. It appeared to leave an oily residue on the car. I used tons of elbow grease and it would not seem to come off with the microfiber towel ( I was careful to not apply too much pressure to scratch the paint). The only way to get it back to it's factory shine was to wash the vehicle. I should mention this is a brand new (2 month old) Lexus 2013 ES350 (Obsidian) paint.

Has anyone had issues with this stuff? It was definitely not the show finish I expected or as stated on the bottle. In the sunlight, you could clearly see traces of the wax residue.

I use Ultimate Quick Wax and Ultimate Quick Detailer all the time with no residue like you describe. Not sure what might have happened.

if you let it dry too much it will leave an appearance of a residue, to get rid of it change towels out often and keep polishing. I deal with this problem from time to time as I dont have a garage or car port to wax in.

One car is a silver metallic and the other a dark red-ish bronze-ish metallic (the darker of the two). It would show a residue on the finish.

I think Meguire's has a hotline #, maybe they'd have some tips.

Was your car clean? If i remember correctly the car has to be clean. I used it before on my OB paint without problem. You also need to do it quickly enough before it completely dries. I usually do section by section inside garage or when it's cool.

I've been using UQW/D156 for a good couple years and have seen this behavior only once when I failed to shake the bottle well prior to using it.

If that was not the cause, give the Meguiar's toll free hotline a call and they will take care of you.

Make sure you apply in a garage or at least out of direct sunlight

applicator pad? this is the spray bottle, no?

I just spray and wipe off with a MF towel and drive away. Doesn't get easier than that with no fussing about with it.

I just checked and the instructions on the bottle don't make any mention of using an applicator pad. Just as you indicated. Spray on and wipe off with a towel.

Are we talking about Ultimate Wax the liquid applied with an applicator or a pad"
or
Are we talking about Ultimate Quik Wax the spray-on wipe-off liquid?

Big difference, one pours out of the bottle. The other sprays out of the bottle.

I use UQW not ULW for this. Actually, I use the D156 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax from their detailer line which is the same as UQW only less expensive in bulk.

I had an issue like yours once when applying wax on a very humid day. was it humid? best to apply in the shade on a relatively dry day.

did you let the car cool off before applying the wax? i open the hood and let the car sit for a couple of hours before i even begin to wash it, let alone apply wax. either the car was too hot or you applied too much or you let it sit for too long before removing the wax.
