Question Opinion on California duster

I have a california duster, but i am wondering what people's opinions on it are?

I am afraid of scratches on my black car, and also, after repeated use, doesn't the dust build up stay inside the duster and will scracth that car despite what the duster manual says.

is there anyway to 'clean' the duster? or do you just throw away and get a new one every so often?

Thumbs up Good Points

430 - I have used a California Duster since Day 1 on my black GS & also years ago on a black 'Vette & think it's great for removing that thin layer of dust that seems to settle on the car overnight ( even with an indoor garage ). Gene ( GREAT name!! ) makes some excellent points about when to use/not use it. I wouldn't recommend it if the car's really dirty as it will drag the grit across the surface & scratch things. I shake mine out after about 3-4 passes over the car just in case & replace it at least once a year ( more frequently if it gets really dirty - figure it's cheap insurance ). Even Griot's garage suggests it's use before using any "quick detailer" like theirs; Zaino's Z-6 or Meguairs. Trust me that THAT'S good advice!! I did half my hood using the Duster first & the other half w/o ( using Z-6 & my usual soft, deep nap towel ) & could see some minor scratches on the Duster-less side. Nothing that a single coat of Z-5 couldn't easily handle but still made work on myself!! Get one & feel safe about using it!

Mine is used on my G4 and 53 Packard all the time. And yes, just use your head; if moisture has forced dirt to stick to your car it's time to wash. Great product though and can extend the life of your carwash.

Last week, I got one for an early Father's day present. After
airing it out for 48 hours (Just reading the instructions), I
used it on my TV's. WOW!

I took it outside, shook off the dust and used it on my Black
Onyx RX 300. I had washed my car 2 days earlier and after
using the Cali CarDuster, I was amazed.

Sheesh, I use it every day now.

I read about the pro's and con's and thought I'd try it out on my 96 LS400 and 98 GS400 since I was planning to do a polish/detail in a couple of months (in case it scratched the surface). I found one at Target this past weekend for $10 and have been using it for a few days. So far, it looks like it is really doing a great job for light dirt (no rain). It's nice seeing the cars stay clean and shiny with only 3 minutes of effort. Like other say, just make sure you're just touching the surface lightly and not scrubbing.

I agree with both Genes here. It's great if used correctly.

I personally dust every morning, and also use Meguires Quick Detailer when needed, in between washes to keep the car nicely detailed, and clean. I mini-detail once to twice a week with QD. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes per application of Quick Detailer to the entire car. By using the detailer when a slight "buildup" of dirt starts, a surface is created where the duster can "glide" over the paint smoothly, and where dust doesnt stick.

The end result is a car that stays looking freshly detailed 24/7....

Highly recommended.

I have a black car so it's a must. I love every $10 worth of it.

I can't live without it! My car is parked outside so it's going to get dusty everyday.

These things are a life saver. I have used them on every vehicle I have owned since 1985. I keep one in each vehicle, a couple at home and even use the mini duster on my motorcycle. They work great. Of course you don't use it if the vehicle is real dirty and needs a wash.

Definately worth the money. Just make sure you read the directions first!

Hmm, my CA duster always leaves a slight film on the paint. I've aired out the duster, but it still leaves marks on the finish.

I hope you didn't do it while your paint was hot or petty warm.

I had the same problem with mine (back when I still used it).. leaves like parafin wax or something on the surface. It was broken in according to instructions.
