Need new head unit for 01 GS300
I bought a 2001 GS300 a couple weeks ago. The radio display often flashes funny characters or goes blank for minutes at a time. Although the radio plays fine. The Lexus dealer told me it would cost $655 to replace the head unit. But if I could find one myself they'd install it for $100.
I've searched the web for days but I cannot find one for sale for my model/year. The unit I have is a P1718.
Does anyone know where I may find one of these?
Thanks,
kj

Welcome to CL Kevin!
I've moved your post to the classifieds.
Most folks don't know the part number - can you confirm what label your head unit has on the front of it? Is it "Premium" or "Nakamichi"
Edit - as poster below correctly states, for 2001 would be Mark L instead of Nakamichi.

Hello Welcome to CL,
I did a stereo change and have a spare stock head unit out of a 2001 GS 300. No navigation and not a Mark Lev. stereo.
If that is what you have email me at cykim@juno.com or PM me and make me an offer

The head unit I have has P1718 on the cassette cover. I bought the car used. The radio is not Mark L for sure. I THINK it's Nakamichi but I'm not totally sure.
My other question (which may be for another forum) is even if I find one of these units, can I expect that all these head units will go bad the same way? Do all this model radios meet the same fate?
Thanks guys. I just got my 1st Lexus and this club is awesome. Thanks for putting me in the right forum.

Some of the head units do go bad, but it isn't enough to be a massive problem. You'll always run the risk but you'd run the same risk with any piece of electronics or even a new aftermarket stereo (I had to get my new Eclipse unit pulled out and shipped back some time ago for noise issues)

Go to BananaGS's web site at http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/. Check out "Interior #16". Good luck. Let us know if you have any questions.

1) Pull the A/C vent out and take the two 10mm bolts out.
2) Pull the ashtray out and take another two 10mm bolts out
3) Pull the head unit out which is attached to the A/C controls and unplug the connectors
4) Swap the radios.
5) Have a beer or two and save yourself $100.00
