Lexus RC F ProMod Racer is the World’s Quickest Door Slammer

By -

EKanoo Racing-built Lexus RC F runs the quarter mile in the low-5-second range with more than 3,000 horsepower.

The Lexus RC F is one of the strongest and quickest sports coupes that Lexus has offered, trailing only the LC and the LFA. With a 467-horsepower V8, this sleek sports coupe will cover the quarter mile in the high-12-second range in stock form, but we don’t see a whole lot of crazy-quick Lexus coupes. The entire RC line is engineered to be luxurious sports car that offers a broad range of performance, so while it gets down the straight-line in a hurry, most owners stick to the open road.

That is what makes it so surprising to learn that the quickest drag car with doors in the world is a Lexus RC F. Well, it is a Lexus body over a custom pro mod chassis, but at the end of the day, the sport’s quickest car with doors is an RC F.

EKanoo Racing is a tuning shop based on Bahrain and while the team has built a great many insane drag cars, the Lexus RC F shown here is the King of them all. In fact, this Lexus coupe is the King of all drag cars with opening doors, referred to as “door slammers”, as opposed to a funny car with a flip-up body or a rail car with no body at all.

EKanoo Racing built a custom lightweight chassis for this RC F, so in the long run, a great many of the go-fast bits under the Lexus body aren’t from Toyota Motors, but that is true of almost all of the world’s quickest cars. Most notably, this car is not powered by the 5.0-liter Toyota V8, instead opting for 521-cubic inch Hemi V8 from ProLine Racing Engines. ProLine builds the top pro mod engines, so it comes as no surprise that EKanoo turned to the Georgia-based engine builder. That engine is fitted with Precision Turbo Gen III 94mm turbochargers that help the V8 produce upwards of 3,000 horsepower, with all of that power being channeled to the rear wheels by means of a 3-speed M&M Transmission.

The Record Run

Prior to setting the door slammer record in the video above, EKanoo Racing had made a handful of runs in the mid-5-second range, but on February 18, 2018 Khalid Mohammed pulled the RC F onto the drag strip at the Bahrain Circuit ready to set history. He did just that, rocketing away from the starting line and ripping down the track faster than any drag racer in the world has ever gotten down the track with doors.

The RC F pulled a 0.959 60-foot time, a 3.615 8th mile at 227 miles per hour, a 4.571 1000-foot time and getting to the quarter mile finish line took just 5.379 seconds, hitting a speed of 448 kilometers per hour. That is 278 miles per hour, in a quarter mile, in just over 5 seconds.

Remarkably, there were problems with the parachutes after the run and one didn’t open, forcing Mohammed to control, but while he scuffed the wall, he was able to minimize the damage to the car.

However, wall-brush aside, this Lexus RC F turned the quickest quarter mile time of any door slammer, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
