Lexus Is ‘Polar Opposite to Boring,’ Confirms Australia

Oz’s EFTM calls ‘edgy’ NX200t top ride over other regional offerings.

Crossovers are taking over American roads at an alarming rate. Lexus’ baby crossover, the NX200t is the automaker’s offering to attract the new craze of consumers that want a spacious vehicle, while having the comfort of having the same amount of ground clearance as a compact SUV. Lexus has always competed with European automakers and it hopes to do the same with the NX200t. Australia’s EFTM got behind the wheel of the crossover to see how it stacks up against the competition.

Let’s face it, the majority of vehicles from European automakers, especially crossovers and SUVs, aren’t exactly exciting in the styling department. According to EFTM, the NX200t doesn’t have this issue, as the vehicle stands out from the mundane crowd. “Lexus has gone down a path that’s the polar opposite to boring,” says EFTM.

While the exterior design of the NX200t is bold and daring, the automaker, as EFTM points out, took a different path for the interior. Instead of going with over-the-top luxury, Lexus went with an interior that’s cleverly made.

“What’s on offer is an impressive display of precision when it comes to fit and finish that takes precedence over pure luxury,” says EFTM. “…It’s a nice place to be and you just know it will hold together for many years to come.”

The interior is also fitted with luxury features one would expect a high-end vehicle to have. Things like adaptive cruise control, an excellent head-up display, lane keep assist, and a blind spot monitor system are included in the Sports Luxury model. As EFTM points out, these features are optional extras on European vehicles, which can cause prices to soar.

Crossovers, even ones that compete in the luxury segment, aren’t known for having a plush ride. The NX200t’s powertrain, which features a 2.0-liter turbocharge engine and a six-speed automatic has a transmission that “is slick and barely noticeable most of the time,” said EFTM. That’s high praise for an automatic gearbox.

Overall, EFTM believes the “Lexus NX200t represents good value compared to some European offerings.” With its spunky styling, well-made interior, and lengthy list of high-tech features, the NX200t is a strong competitor in a heavily populated segment.”
