GS F Is Just Alright With Me
Most of us were pretty excited to see the two-door RC F, with its fire-breathing V8 powerplant. But with only two doors, it’s not really a practical purchase option for a lot of people. So when Lexus said a GS F was coming, that’s why people got even more excited.
But then we learned that it has the same engine and horsepower as the RC F. For many, that was a disappointment.
But let’s take a look at it objectively. Right now, there’s no 4-door version of the RC F. So if you’re looking for a Lexus sports sedan that makes 467 horsepower and has a sonorous V8, the GS F is your answer.
Also, looking at it realistically, 467 horsepower is more than enough for a sports sedan. We’re so consumed by big horsepower numbers from Dodge and Cadillac that we are forgetting that 700 horsepower is almost completely unusable for everyday driving.
I hate to sound cliche, but it really is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. With 467 horsepower, the car will have plenty of grunt for the everyday, and it’s not too much horsepower that someone couldn’t enjoy all of it daily.
The big unknown is how the car will drive. Driving dynamics are more important than raw horsepower numbers, and we don’t know what to expect from this Lexus. Until late 2015, the performance-on-paper numbers are just that: on paper.
