Enough Moaning, Cause Lexus F Sport Sales Are Booming

LEXUS-NX-F-SPORT-0

Back in 2011, when I first started writing for Club Lexus, Lexus was busy boring the hell out of the automotive world, and in doing so, they lost the sales lead in the premium sector for the first time in 11 years.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my fault that sales waned, but I can attest to the difficulty of finding exciting stories to tell about the marque. Today, I don’t have that problem at all, and a lot of the reason for that starts with the letter F.

With all of today’s F and F Sport Lexus offerings, and with folks yammering for performance, it’s no coincidence that sales are up to the tune of 247,445 Lexus vehicles sold through September, just behind Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

But here’s the thing. Though F is all about putting performance at the forefront as much as luxury, the F Sport variants really only do that with a good tune and some cosmetic touches. Which has been the complaint of some folks here on Club Lexus since the F Sport packages were first introduced. Namely that F Sport cars don’t really deserve to be called F, that it somehow dilutes what F stands for.

But it’s time to stop complaining, because F Sport upgrades are definitely adding up. Big time.

According to CarScoops, “In 2015, a staggering 71 percent of all RC coupe buyers chose the F Sport package. Not the full-blown RC F, but the package! Almost half of IS and GS and 30 percent of NX buyers did the same.” Then they go on to say, “buyers of the F Sport version are on average 12 years younger than those of the plain vanilla (…) model.”

And sure, there was no need to get personal there. But that about takes care of the anti F Sport argument, don’t you think?
