285/30 tire fit a 9.5in wide wheel
Will a 285/30 tire fit a 9.5in wide wheel? Is 245/35 and 285/30 a better match or should I go with 275/30 for the rears? According to my calculation, the diameter of a 275/30 is ~0.25 inches shorter than that of a 245/35 which will make the car not look level. OTOH, there is almost no difference in diameter between 245/35 and 285/30. BTW, the wheel sizes are 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 and I'm looking to get S03s.
Thanks.
Thanks.

depends on the tyre; but majority of the 285s that i know require 10s as a minimum width...
check with www.tirerack.com site on the specs for the S-03s

You can do a 285 but then you get that bloated look from the wheel which IMHO looks terrible.. I don't see what the fascination is with guys wanting 285 or even 295 out back unless you intend to race your car or have a Super Charger installed and you need that extra meat on the road.. Just my 2 cents!

I have 245/35 and 275/30 S-03s on 8.5" and 9.5".
The 275s are not noticeably shorter than the 245s.
The 245s look more square than the 275s.
Next tires I get will most likely be 285 in back and I think they will look PERFECT on a 9.5" wheel. 275 looks a little small to me.
I might need to mod the fender a tad with the +41 offset.
Good luck.

I will never go back.........UNTIL I get an S/C it is purely cosmetic appeal....
Ryan: as a point of reference, I used to run 245/40/18F, 265/35/18R and the 6mm height difference in the sidewall appeared alot larger than that when looking at the wheels....

I see where you are coming from since I was looking at a Z3 (M Edition) in a local parking lot while I was at lunch today and the stance of the super wide rubber it had on.. I think it was like 295 (But don't quote me) looks amazing from behind but I still stand behind my last message.. Maybe I am becoming an old fart.. LOL
BTW you have one hell of a sweet ride!
Keep up the good work!!

even if you can sqweeze the 285 on the 9.5" wide rim. You will need to be carefull at the limit. cause the tire is being sqweezed in there.
It be out if you just do city driving, and nothing too spirited, and no high speed turns.
Cause if you autocross it, the bead might not hold, and the tire could roll out.
read this in Gassroots Motorsports or one of those autocross mags

Thanks guys! I guess I'll just get the 275s for the rear wheels since the wheel width is 9.5" and I do tend to take corners quite fast sometimes...don't want to end up driving on wheels with no tires on If S-03s are crappy, what are some other good tire brands?

Since you have 10" width on the rear wheels, you could go with the 285s. With 275s, the car sits lower in the back and therefore increases the front fender well gap slightly since 245s are taller than 275s by ~0.25" but 285s are pretty much the same as 245s in height...difference of ~0.02". So you'll reduce some gap in the front fender well and also the wider tires will help with traction when you get the new turbo BTW, I rode in Marken/lexlyf's Stage II turbo GS3 and its amazing. Lots more power than my GS4 and you should have seen the looks on people's faces when they heard the blowoff valve.

apatel,
For my 2 cents I would suggest you get the Toyo T1-S.. An amazing tire in my books for half decent life, quiet ride and amazing handling.. Hope that helps!
