Default 235/50x17" tires?

I was reading the latest Motor Trend on the Jaguar S-type. It runs 235/50x17" tires, which are approx. .925 taller than the 235/45x17" that the GS uses. The 50 series would fill up the wheel wells better, without having to lower the car. What I was wondering was what is the difference in the rear end gearing between the LS and GS? The LS uses 225/60x16" which is an additonal .250 taller than the 50 series and the LS weighs more than the GS, but according to Motor Trend is only .1 of a second slower to 60 and the quarter. The first thing I noticed when I took delivery of my GS430 was how small the tires looked on the car. I had traded a 95 540I with the same size tires, but they looked good on it.
