Anyone ever bought 4 new tires and they wont balance? Calling all tire techs!
ok...I bought 4 new tires for my 99 3000GT SL. They are 245 35 19 Nankang's.(I know cheap...but the car is FS) I went to have them mounted/balanced etc. and the shop calls me to tell me all 4 tires are bad. They say they are "out of round... up and down".....and will not balance. They have the latest machine and really good techs. They put the Nitto tires on the wheels 2 yrs ago and they were perfect. They say the wheels are not warped/bent etc. but the tires are bad...all FOUR!! Anyone ever heard of this. i got the tires from Big O tires in FL and had them shipped here for $475. They are sending 4 more new tires in Nexen brand to replace these. What is the deal!

It happened to me once. Bought a cheapo tire and all 4 were putz...out of round. Can't remember the name, I think it started with a v. I swore them off so hard I forgot what they're called.
But yeah, it's possible. That's why I try to buy decent tires. The cheapest anything is usually not a good choice.

Used to replace the Nankangs all the time for ride complaint - I doubt all 4 are causing the complete problem, but I don't doubt that they all look badly when spinning on the balancer... plus being that they are brand new... I'd demand something else...
Thats why on this and other forums I participate on, I always try to preach spending a couple more bucks on a nicer tire... you definitely get what you pay for (to an extent at least)

if there is a lot of movement with the tires. up/down, side/side movement and they ride like crap or a massive amount of weight needs to be added to balance, have the tires rotated on the rim 180 degrees.
most tires and rims aren't made perfectly so there is a heavy/light spot. i dont know about those tires you bought but they should have a painted mark (usually yellow/red) on the sidewall. that mark should be placed where the valve stem is to counter balance the heavy/light spot with the rim.
the trick is to find the right position to where to mount the tire on the rim to reduce movement.
check all the obvious stuff too ,like the beads are seated correctly ,rims isnt a dirty mess and counter balancing the weights.
hope that helps
