Does size matter?
I am ordering a set of new wheels, and I am wondering what most people's opinion is on wheel sizes. I wanted to go with 18x8.5 all around with +45 offset, and 245/40 tires. My car is lowered with L-Tuned. However, I have been hearing both good/bad things about staggering, and am kind of tempted.
To make matters a bit more complex, friends recommended me to go up to 18x9 all around, with same size tires. I am wondering, what size I should go with if I wanted to stay same size all around. If you do choose option 3,4, what is the difference between the two?
One more thing, can you put 275/35 tire on a 18x9 wheel?
thanks for any suggestions,

I was posting the reply and someone deleted it! And now it's back on...... ??????????
anyways.
I said 18x8.5 front 18x9.5 rear.
I prefer this over 18x9 18x10 because with x9x10 you're limited to wider tires in front and back. I think you can only use 245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear if you go that wide. If you choose to go narrower, then you can't.
So 8.5 9.5 isn't that supreme. More ideal tires for the gS with those widths.

if you use 18x8.5/18x9.5 rims, you have a range of tire widths to choose from. 235front/265rear, 245front/275rear or even 285 rear.
If you use 18x9/19x10 rims, you still have a range of tire widths to choose from, but they'll be wider choices. Like 245front/275rear, 255front/285rear, or even 295 rear.
Most people don't use 285 or 295 widths for the rear. That's too wide to most people. So you don't really need the x10 rear rims. And with 18x9 in front, you're limited to wider front tires. So if you wanna get 235 width tires, you can't with 18x9 front because your rims are too wide to have 235 tires.
Might sound confusing, but I'm trying to say that the tire width range for 18x8.5/18x9.5 wheels are more acceptable for the GS, as well as economical reasons. Rims are cheaper, and you can get 235 front tires which will be alot cheaper than 245 widths front tires.
You'll wanna check with wheel experts about my post. i can't guarantee it's 100% right but basically that's what I wanna say.

very well put , Globe...
lex,
if you know for SURE that you will be using 245 for the front, 18x9 F+R would be ideal if you do not know whether or not you want to stagger now/in the future....

Will,
Talked to SP, and they have some concern on 18x9 wheel with 245/40 tire in the front with rubbing on the outter fender. They are recommending 235/40 for the front, but it's undetermined right now.
I remember you also have the Ltuned drop, and 18x9 wheel with 245/40 tire, can you confirm that for me? Should I be concerned?
thanks,

lex,
actually my front has a bit more drop(1.4" drop) than the l-tuned, and i have ZERO rubbing, nada problem from day one. if there is any slight hint of concern, i would have reservation about telling you....
many guys have 19x9 with 245/35/19 on the front, and i have not heard any problem. BUT, if this will make you lose sleep over, stay with 18x8.5(235/40/18)
