Akebono brake pads long-term opinions?
Hi all,
(Sorry I posted this in the general 3IS forum before remembering about the brake section).
My brake pads need to be changed and I'm interested in the Akebono ACT1118 because I can't take all that brake dust anymore
Everyone says how the Akebono brakes make less dust, however I couldn't find any long term reviews/opinions. I'm especially worried about screeching and other noises. I'd rather have brake dust than screeching!
Car is 2014 IS350 RWD.
I also need the pads for the rear brakes, can anyone point me in the right direction? I couldn't find the information.
Thanks.
P.S.: I need to change my front rotors, but I thought I'd take the ones from Lexus.

I've replaced my oem pads with Akebono Proact on two of my previous vehicles and one of our current vehicles (12 TL sh awd). An 06 350z and 08 TL and have driven with them for about 4 years on the z before selling the vehicle, and the previous TL about 2 years before it was totaled (rear ended on freeway). Neither made any noises during that time and I did not have any issues. When it's time to replace my pads on my GS I may look into other brands just to try but so far akebono hasn't disappointed.
Did a quick search for your rears, ACT1391. You may want to confirm for yourself on the akebono website.

Thanks for the information.
Can I just change the brake pads and use them with the OEM rotors and calipers? Is there any reason the pads and calipers wouldn't be compatible, for example?

There shouldn't be any fitment issues, it will be direct oem fitment for your specific vehicle.

I recently changed my front brake pads as well. I chose Power Stop Z23 and brake dust significantly reduced. Now front wheels and rear wheels are the same in term off brake dust. It has good bite just like my old OEM pads. You will need to follow the instruction and bed in new brake pads properly.
