Default KYB Struts for Front L/R

Not needed now, but I know I have a small leak in one of my front struts.

Was quoted $580 by independent shop to replace with KYB brand (not sure of exact model/variant) and do alignment.

Dealer was $1300 (LOL).

$580 good/fair price? 2008 IS350 with the AFS lights.

THANKS.

My independent shop quoted me 3 hours of labour per strut for installation when I asked out of curiosity so the quote seems right. KYB struts aren't that expensive. Obv, the DIY solution would save you the most money.

We Don't have struts in a Lexus IS, we have shock absorbers. Anyway, shocks should always be replaced in pairs.

I just re-read my post and I can see how it sounds confusing.

I intended to say ONE of my fronts is leaking lightly but I will have BOTH replaced at same time.

The bid was $580 for BOTH and I'm curious what others have paid, KYB brand but I do not know exact model, just that they are made in JAPAN.

What's up, neighbor?

I know Big'O Tires has a $40 rebate on KYB struts for our cars through the end of April. I'm not sure what the total cost is but I had a quote done last week when I got new tires for all 4 KYBs and both front axels and they quoted me only $1600. Lexus wants almost $3k so I think I am finally going to say no to Lexus.....for the first time ever....and I have put 145k mies on my 2010 IS with EVERYTHING completed at the dealer.

do it yourself and save$$. I replaced both my front shocks yesterday with OEM shocks assemblies from a 2013 IS so I didn't have to bother with spring compressors etc.. makes it a lot easier. First time doing it myself, took about 3 hours. impact wrench really helps and oil penetrant.

Thanks, guys. I will look for some DIY guides / tutorials on what is required and see if it's something I am comfortable with tackling. I'm coming off a 2005 Honda Accord that was cake to work on.

BTW, off topic, but... where on the forum is there like a "local" section where I could locate people within 30 miles of me that do "side work"? I'd love to link up with a known reputable local dude that would take cash from me to wrench on my car... Is there a "local mechanics" section or something?

I would love to buy parts online w/ free ship no tax and pay cash to a forum member to either do the work or pay to help me on some of the bigger items as opposed to taking it to a shop. I checked forum and could not locate such a thing, just classified and stuff for sale.

I'm in Scottsdale Arizona near the Talking Stick Pavillions casino and baseball spring training park.

OK. So I'm going to take the plunge and do all 4 shocks on my 2008 IS350. I already know my front left is leaking and rather than just do fronts I want them all done so I can log the maintenance and know that I'm tip top when it comes to shocks.

I am looking at two types. KYB GAS-A-JUST for $329 for all 4 or the TOKICO HP for $557 for all 4.

For those shock experts, what I am getting with that extra ~$230 bucks that the TOKICO cost? Will it be NOTICABLE and is it worth the extra money or will the GAS-A-JUST be just fine?

My car is 100% stock I do not drive super aggressively at all but I do like to drive for fun sometimes but never ever race and obey all laws, lol. I just want to put in good **** so I know my ride is as good as it can be!

I'm also in the process of buying factory shock and cost online is about 900 for all 4, and i think the cost to have a reputable alignment place to install was 2-300 include alignment. Now i need to figure out the correct part number for factory front shock and factory rear strut.

So, is KYB better? Where to get KYB and what is the part number for front and rear?
