2006 Lexus IS 250 AWD Axle boot torn repair cost?
I have a 2006 Lexus 250 IS AWD and have a left rear axle boot that is torn. I am being told the repair is $1500.00 and that the axle has to be replaced. Does this sound right to you?
Thanks

Unfortunately Lexus does not sell the boots separately, the whole axle must be replaced.
If you can find one cheaper or get cheaper labour, those are about the only ways to reduce the cost of repair. Perhaps a good used axle?

Guys, thank you very much for your help. I paid total $1100 for replacing the whole axle (not at the authorized dealership)
As Jeff said, the whole axle had to be replaced.

Really? I ordered an EMPI CV boot kit when mine was leaking for $35. I had a shop do it while I was at work because I was too busy and they only charged me $60 bucks to replace the boot. Its no different than any other lexus boot repalcement. It was a quality boot and I know for a fact its still good because I just had my car on the lift yesterday at my friends shop doing snow tires and joint inspection. Replaced it last February. $95 better than $1100

1100 is pretty steep :/ you can get an axle for $100 and a couple hours of labor to replace it. Unless you were looking to get an oem axle then that sounds about right.
