ok so if youre familiar with me you know my car is a major project lol. today i was going to change my calipers but was like wait a minute. im broke at the moment and payday is tomorrow ill just wait so i can change the brake hoses aswell.
then i was like. well i already jacked the car up might as well check on my crappy steering rack. i knew i couldnt get the steering rack bolts off because hercules himself tightened them. but then me and my brother got them off after 30 minutes of struggling lol. anywho we replaced the passanger side grommet with a grommet i bought at lexus for like $40 or something. we replaced that drove it around felt better, lifted the car again, saw the driver side bushings werent doing anything and the rack just moved in all directions. LONG STORY SHORT.
i took those bushings out and if your familiar with steering rack bushings they have a metal core and some sort of plastic around it. anywho it was just the core... there was no plastic at all on either. me being ghetto, i wrapped some fabric around each core to act as the plastic, put them back in (it was easier than i thought) drove it around and BOOM. feels almost perfect. (i need a rebuilt on my steering rack still, other than that its as close to perfect as its ever been)
steering response is awesome! went traffic-dodging on the freeway right after, lmao. uploading a pic of the bushing in a bit
