Default Replacing Brakes On GS400 Question

Hey guys,

Last night I changed the front brake pads with no problem, but when I got to the back I noticed that I didn't have the tool I needed to remove the caliper. It looks start shaped and I was wondering if anyone can give me the type of tool and size I need to remove them. Also, do I only remove two of the screws just like the two bolts I need to remove for the front? I looked at the rear ones and it looked like I'll need to remove more than two to take it off. I did search for this, but couldn't find anything. Oh and the car is a 98 GS400.

Thanks guys!!

are you just trying to change the pads? if so you don't need to take off the calipers. just remove the locking clip at the top, then the 2 pins holding the pads could be pulled out. then you remove the pads, push the pistons back, and insert new pads

if you need to change rotors then it's a different story, someone else can chime in

Yeah, just the pads. What do you use to push the piston in on the back calipers? It seems as though it would be a tight fit for my C-Clamp. Do the rear calipers need to be pushed in or screwed in? I don't know how my C-Clamp or anything I would use to screw it in would fit.

Thanks for the help!

umm good question. i can't remember how my tech did it last time. i think he put some sort of clamp in and then "expand" it, effectively pushing out both pistons on both sides

in that case i believe it's just push in?

Ok, thanks for the help! I'll take a look at it again and see how to go about doing it.
