Default Is this a bad rack and pinion?

I'm not sure if this is related to the SC's only but ohwell, here goes. The problem started two days ago out of nowhere. Whenever I turn the wheel mainly to the left at very slow speesd(0-7mph) something is holding the wheel back until it "breaks free." There is some grinding, or so it seems, going on as well. I have not had any problems at higher speeds. I tried the search but I couldn't get an exact answer, so anyone please chime in.

Nathan

Sorry, I haven't experienced anything like that. Maybe someone with a service manual can help?

When my power steering pump was beginning to fail, it would exhibit poor performance at the outer limits of steering travel. I hate to tell you this, but if that is your problem, it will go out pretty quickly. The good news is that you'll get a good upper body workout driving around once it fails. I've heard many stories about the pump going out, but none about rack and pinion problems.

I think I may have fixed the problem-hopefully!! Since the problem didn't show up all the time, I thought it was very odd. I opened up the hood and checked to see if there was something that was noticeably obstructing the knuckle or wheel movement. One of the plastic battery caps was wedged in between the the stering member and it had been grinded on(noticeable chunks taken out of the plastic). The battery is directly above the where the postive cap was wedged so I guess it broke off and got stuck. Im about to drive around town to see if this was the problem and I will let ya'll know. Thanks for the help.

does anyone know why when you drift, the steering wheel feels ... softer? or easier to turn??? i accidently fish tailed at bout 30mph and the steering started to feel less stiff.
