Default Rear Brake Caliper

I've read a few posts about front calipers seizing. I've gone through all the maintenance records and see the previous owner replaced both front calipers.
But I haven't read anything on the rear calipers seizing. Nor could I find any receipts ftom the previous owner that the rear calipers have ever been replaced.
When my wife got home from work today I could smell a burning brake and the left rear wheel was hot ! (2004 GX) I took the caliper off and luckily the pads aren't wrecked nor is the rotor.
Has anyone heard of the rear calipers seizing?
I'd like to replace them with oem calipers but thry could be very pricey. I might use aftermarket ones depending on the price.
Looking forward to your rear caliper experience.
Thanks

I can't remember reading much about rear calipers either. When I bought my GX with 90k, both front calipers (lower piston) were frozen, but the rears were fine. I went ahead and put Napa (lifetime warranty) calipers on the front and new Akebono pads front and rear while I was in there. No complaints for 10k miles now - knock on wood.

My buddy's IS250 rear calipers were frozen with around 100k miles on the clock. So I guess it can happen.

Bring the both old ones to Autozone as the core to buy the new. It's about 75$ for each, it fits perfectly and work flawlessly. Got it done 2 months ago, no regret. Hope this help.

Well I bought the aftermarket one for $75 with tax. I called the stealership and they wanted $282 for a re-manufactured one and $303 for a new one. That made my mind up fast.
So far so good with the $75 but it has only been one day of driving. I will do the right rear in the next couple of days as I'm sure it's not too far behind. Pretty sure they are both original and 13 years old.
I really doubt the $75 ones are going to last 13 years though.

It can happen. Is the brake fluid in good condition? Clean or dirty? I am a firm believer in flushing the system, just my opinion.
