Heat blowing cold air (pics inside)
Looks like I have a similar problem that others have had, but through searching I didn't find a definite resolution.
At the time they did the fan recall on my car the coolant was at the low mark before and after they did the procedure (do they just put the old coolant back in?)
Anyways, been keeping an eye on the coolant level and it seems to not have changed much over the past 6 months or so since the recall work.
Today the heat was working intermittently. Took a picture of the coolant level and it was below low:
So, I figured I would take a pic, add a little distilled water and see what happened. I took the cap off the overflow tank and a bunch of air came out and the coolant level magically read full:
Start the car up thinking there was just some air in the system from the recall work and that I would be good. Well, no heat and when I checked the overflow tank it was back on low:
So, what's going on here? I don't notice any outward leaks and I asked them to check for leaks when they did thecrecall and they found nothing.
I don't really think I can add any water because the level appears full when I take the cap off?!
Ill likely have to take to the dealer next week unless anyone has some thoughts on this.
Thanks

Mine did the same thing, on the low mark when cold, then back up to the full mark when hot. Turned out it was the infamous Valley plate leak
Unless you already had that fixed, that would be my guess....

This is interesting, Jz39. I just got my F and the heat is working intermittently as well and noticed that the level of the coolant is right below the low level. Going to remove the cap to see if I get the same thing and then top it off with distilled water to see if I get the same result as you.
What is this fan recall that you speak of?
Thanks
Matt

I forget the code for the recall, maybe ELE? Basically they replace the screws for the cooling fan. I'll show them the pics next time I go in for an oil change and have them take another look but that likely won't be till spring as she'll be retiring for the winter any day now.

Not sure what's going on with my car. Coolant was right at the low line last night, topped it up to full, let the car run for a few minutes, topped it off and then ran it again for a few more minutes. Heat seems to be working better now but when I checked the coolant level again after driving today it was right at the low line. I can't see any leaks anywhere and no signs of the car running hot.
