OBD 2 scaner for 2002 Sc430..help
Hi
I got an Elm 327 from ebay and it works fine on my 2006 RX 350. But when i connect it to the 430 it says can communicate with the ECU. Also after that i got the VSC lights on
Can anyone recommend a OBD scanner that will work with the 2002 model and that won't cause the VSC light to come on ??
Thanks

Start reading here first and you will find some answers...
Also, I have a handheld from harbor freight that works fine but I prefer the Toyota techstream software, $25 with cable from many sellers on eBay and Amazon.
Anyway, read this thread and then ask more questions.

At that point I just short pins 4&14 and the VSC light blinks fast. Key off, disconnect and all is good again.
The long post explains why the lights are triggered on our earlier models.
If you read the manual of your handheld checker, it may be possible to only have the handheld attempt to connect using only the correct mode. I forgot which mode but the next time you connect the handheld screen will tell you.
I believe the CAN mode is the one that triggers the fault.

I now have an easy to use VSC OFF light reset tool.
Here is the $2.10 OBDII connector purchased on eBay from a guy in China. It took about two weeks for it to show up.
If you look at the center row you will see the jumper I soldered between the two points toward the bottom of the connector. Those two points are connected to pins 4&14.
The finished product. Very easy to build and use.

This is AWESOME! Best tool ever made. Mine is a shaped paper clip (what a pity). I will purchase this as well and modify.
What item did you search for please?
Thanks for the ingenious device, more important I now have a little project!

Whenever I plug in my OBDII Reader (using the Toyota TECH Stream) and when I get the Emissions checked, chances are I will have a “VSC OFF” light ON. Only way to clear it is to short pins 4 and 14. This tool will come in handy at least once a year. Then I can dump my paper clip tool (which is a pain to use because you are laying there in your back trying to figure where to insert the clip in the maze of the female receptacle!
And this reset tool is the only way to clear this issue.
Otherwise you can head out to the dealer and get it cleared up, $70 is the charge, I saw this bill from the Lexus dealer when I bought the SC eons ago and the seller promised me to take care of it, he sent it to the nearest Lexus dealer and I saw the receipt in the car when I took the car home.

I gave it a try and it was really nice to just reach under the dash, without looking and plug in the reset tool!
Glad this was helpful mandyfig!

It is one tool that I will enjoy using and the cost...$2.20! Sweet...thanks for thinking about this.

$2.10?! Sheesh, cost me $2.99! (Thanks to whoever recommended that solution back on my TechStream TPMS registration thread last month.) What's amazing is that $2.99 included shipping from China. I can't get a coffee for $3 even when I pick it up.

If anyone else is interested, here is the link for the seller I used. The link should be good for a couple of weeks. BTW, he raised the price $.09. I hope it's not a deal breaker.

Nice! I ended up with those items too! They do look nice on the wheels!
And so far they are still there! Hopefully no kids will think they need them for their bicycle!
