CEL Code P1351 & P1354 SOLVED - Engine Variable Timing Solenoid
Hi,
On my high mileage 2002 SC430 I recently got a Check Engline Light (CEL) along with the VSC and VSC OFF light on my dashboard. The CEL code was P1351 & P1354. The car shook violently when idling after being warmed up to operating temperature.
My non-Lexus independent mechanic replaced the Engine Variable Timing Solenoid part (Toyota number 15330-0F010), also known as Oil Control Valve - Cam Timing (Back 2 Passenger side, I believe) and we're back in business. The retail cost for part is around $100 USD, and my mechanic charged another $120 USD for the installation. The issue seems to be resolved now.
My mechanic told me that it's very unwise to let the engine run for prolonged periods of time with this issue, as it it could "fry the catalytic convertor", or something along those lines.
I'm posting this in case anyone runs into this issue in the future.
