Very tailored look. OEM looking.

Yes, it was DIY. I'm fortunate to have an industrial sewing machine at my disposal. Also, others on these forums do such great looking projects and I knew I'd better step up if I was going to share my experiences here.

Spare tire without killing your trunk space - completed
Last week was my one year ownership anniversary for my SC430. I drove her about 3000 miles last year and now she has just over 26K miles on her. Not bad for an eleven year old car.
Well I finally got around to finishing my spare tire in the trunk project. In the original post I made a new trunk base panel to go around the spare out of plywood. I wasn't sure that I wanted to alter (possibly distroy) the original carpeted trunk base panel incase I wanted to go back to the original "no spare" option. What the heck was I thinking??? I love how the spare tire install turned out. I can fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk even with the top down.
So I bit the bullet. I used the plywood panel as a template (see original post) and cut the original carpeted base panel to match. The panel is made of corrugated plastic with carpet glued onto both sides. I had to use a lighter to singe the fuzz along the cut edge. I put the "Lexus" monogramed carpet in the main part of the trunk over the GPS DVD unit.
I think it turned out quite well. Here are photos of the final product. I used a twist tie to secure the wheel lug lock so I don't have to hunt for it. The loose ends of the twist tie tuck under the panel.
