I saw the OP's thread and got inspired to find something.
I've ordered a "Premier Systems HG-100 B"
It is a combination Bluetooth GPS receiver and HUD unit. It sits on top of the dash and displays speed info onto the inside of the windshield. It comes with a little piece of adhesive film that you stick onto the inside of the windshield and it projects onto that. From what I've seen in the pics I've found, the adhesive film looks almost like a piece of window tint, so it's not 100% transparent, but you can see through it.
It also has a "speed alarm" feature, to let you know when you've hit or exceeded a preset speed (I'll set that for 56 MPH, I promise).
Along with the HUD ability, it's also a GPS receiver capable of communicating with a PDA, laptop, or computer. Now, some of you know that I have a CarPC in the SC430 so, this will be able to connect to that and my CarPC will then have GPS data to play with (I still use my factory navigation system for in-car GPS).
One very nice thing about this unit is that the GPS data comes at 5 HZ (5 times per second)...many GPS units only operate at 1 HZ (one time per second), and they can be a bit jerky/jumpy with the data.
I have FedEx tracking info for it and I should have it in my hands tomorrow. I'll install it this weekend and post up some pics of my specific installation, as well as first-look comments on it.
FYI, it was ~$110.00, with shipping.

I googled the product there seems to be some confusion as to who makes the product and is it really available. Strange comments about tech support no videos or write ups.

There's the "HG-100", which is the first generation...and is discontinued. The "HG-100 B" (the space between the "100" and the "B" seems to be important to them) is the newer version.
I found a few websites that listed it...but didn't have it. Found one place that said they could order it if I placed an order...no thanks.
I had/have doubts about the place I ordered it from but, they said it shipped, and they gave me a tracking number...a valid will-be-delivered-tomorrow FedEx tracking number so, hopefully I'm not being shipped an empty box!!

I believe it does that by GPS, which would not be the most accurate. It will be interesting to see how accurate the unit Habious ordered is, although I can't say the SC speedo is that accurate. There used to be one of those "YOUR SPEED IS" radar signs near my house and my speedo was 2 MPH under accurate.

One big factor in the accuracy of them is the sample-rate. If they only take 1 sample per second (1 Hz), there's just not as much data to extrapolate from...compared to a unit that takes 5 samples per second (5 Hz).
Over a long distance...the 1Hz units are nearly as accurate ("it took you 45 minutes to drive 60 miles - your average speed was...") but the instantaneous readings tend to be less accurate.
Unfortunately, I can only speak in generalities at the moment. We'll know more this weekend about the specifics of this device. I've got my fingers crossed that it works out. Based on my Google searches when I first looked into this, there aren't a ton of options without spending a wheelbarrow full of money.

If this were cellular equiped, you'd also increase accuracy/useability from aGPS, but clearly this unit is standard GPS. I have a feeling it is gonna be cool.

OK boys and girls...it's officially on!!
Package arrived today, as advertised.
Package contents, from left to right...
- HUD/GPS unit
- Power cord
- User's manual
- Non-skid mounting mat
- Dark tint projection film
- Velcro mounting strips
- Box in the background
A few notes...
The user's manual is fairly basic..written in fine Japanenglish. It's not bad, I've seen worse.
The tint patch is dark but transparent (when I first opened the package, I saw the non-skid pad and was like "Oh hell no! I can't see a damn thing through that!"...then I read the book).
The power cord is fairly short, considering this thing is supposed to be up on the dash way over in front of the steering wheel...but I've got a solution for that (you'll have to wait for my installation write-up for that one).
JohnnyCake and I plan to attack this tomorrow with fervor and gusto. We'll take pics of the installation and will try to shoot a little video of it in action when we get it installed.
