Welcome to CL. Learn to use the Search function, located in the light blue bar above this message box; you can find answers to just about anything related to your car.

Here's a .pdf explaining how to replace the trunk struts that I found using the search funtion; My '02 didn't have the retaining pins that are shown in the attached instructions; I think they were added later. The ends of the struts pop off easily with a screwdriver. Make sure the new ones pop on securely and seat all the way. I used a broomstick to hold the trunk open. Good luck

Forget searching.. it will take alot of time looking up the answers your looking for..

I have the same problem a while back.. all you do is take a flat head screw driver and pull out the clips and pull them off and just push the new ones on.. its hard if its stuck.. just pull as hard as you can

Reading some of the answers in this thread is comical and sad at the same time.

It's like watching a train wreck. I want to turn away, but I just can't.

(I feel for Tommy, and now intdiamond too... )

I have a friend who owns a 2002 sc430 I offered to help him change the trunk struts.
Can someone just explain briefly how I detatch the struts . I understand the 2002 does not have retainging pins . I read it that you have to use a screw driver to act as a wedge to pop off the strut ball socket . Am I correct or is there any other method to use
