Default 2002 with 53K miles .. what would you do ???

Hello all.... just joined your club after buying a 2002 SC 430 with 53,000 miles on it.
She left it in the garage most of it's life, and I am OK with that.
I am going to replace the timing belt, but what else would you replace??
I will do the belt and pulleys since they will be removed, I will send the alternator out to be looked at ,,, would you do the water pump also ?? Since it will be torn down I was going to treat it as a 90K mile mant. job.
It is such a toss up with low miles but high years of age.
Any input would be appreciated.

thanks
KC

Consider buying a Timing Belt Kit which includes: timing belt, water pump, thermostat and gasket, timing belt automatic tension adjuster (hydraulic), timing belt tensioner, timing belt idler, one accessory drive belt, front camshaft seals, front crankshaft seal, misc. needed gaskets and seals. Also inspect the serpentine belt and radiator hoses and go from there.

I agree, but you might want to let Toyota do it...
this list was quoted to me at Lexus for $2700...ouch.

What Darthsid said. Just get everything done that comes with the kit, especially if you plan on keeping the car for a few years. I did my 05 last Dec or this Jan even though I had about 67k miles on it cos it met the "years" required.

Check the 90K/Timing Belt Replacement threads here - they give you all the info you need to be able to do it yourself (parts only costs) instead of having the dealer do it if you are the least bit handy. It's easy to work on this engine (for this job anyway) from what I've seen in taking parts off doing my Injen install.

Congratulation on your purchase and welcome to Club Lexus!

I did the 90k service at 55k miles on my 2004. I also flushed the radiator, transmission, steering and brake fluid and replaced the differential fluid. You should also replace the serpantine belt. You can buy all the parts for discount at sewel online parts - select club lexus to get the club discount.

If you are in the KC area you should give Exact Performance a call for a quote. 10% off coupon on their web page for this type of work. Only work on Lexus, Toyota, Acura and Honda. I've used them since 2001 and have always had great results Ben is the owner and Dillon is his service writer. I've found them to be 20-25% less than a dealer.

You get a free oil change if you refer someone to them....if you want they wash and vacuum the vehicle.
