ISF motor and transmission conversion
Hi guys,
I have a local tuner who is swapping an isf (423bhp) motor and trans into a sc 430.
With ppe headers, intake, chiptuning (dastek), sportcats, downpipe etc 500bhp can be achieved.
Hoe do you think about such a swap?
What the final costs will be is not really certain at this point, but the motor and trans will be about 7k and then the testing and swapping of the motor etc. Probably an investment of about 15k.
Is it worth it according to you?
In my point of view the sc 430 is not the perfect car for such a swap because of its weight and appearence......

I know a guy with a IS-F motor in his garage the last 9 months and he is waiting and waiting because there is ZERO aftermarket support so far for this engine. The 40% range of of movement of the VVTI cams needs the OEM solution and the inputs needed for the OEM ECU to function properly will cause you a software and hardware nightmare to retrofit all the required pieces to the lovely SC430 chassis and loom. It can be got running by locking the VVTI but is not worth the effort without the VVTI working and the 60 bhp power loss as a result takes the fun and sparkle out of the conversion.
I reckon this engine is best kept in the IS-F chassis so far. There is no standalone ECU anywhere on the planet that can run this engine yet in another chassis as of August 2013. This will be a Very complicated build outside of it's parent chassis. I would go Corvette Gen 5 or Gen 6 instead of the IS-F as it is a well supported engine for swopping into other chassis and can come as a crate engine which would be a doddle to get running. It's a fair bit smaller than the IS-F powerplant too.
In saying that please talk to SARD, TOMS, MoTEC etc and ask them to build a standalone ECU for this car as there is definitely demand for it. The only question is the volume of the demand.....

Thanks for your thoughts on this guys.
The tuner I am talking about is real good and he did a lot of single turbo conversions on supra's and lots of other projects, but this is certainly not a turn key project.
I think I am going to conviince myself of buying an ISF as a peformance car next to the sc 430 which is a real gentlemens car.

The guy who has this engine has done a load of 600BHP plus single turbo conversions too for the old Supra 3M engine and 1JZ and 2JZ engines and has made 1.5JZ conversions too.
I had my hands on his engine looking at it and discussing the difficulties about the conversion last week in his premises. He is heartbroken at not being able to fit it to his spare Supra.

Those guys are called hard core tuners.
I have lots of respect for guys who try to do such things and I feel his pain........
They only do it because their heart is in it.

Very interesting thoughts. I agree with the idea of purchasing the ISF. At a lower cost though you could still do more to the SC. After intake, exhaust and PPE headers, look at Lextreme. They have upgrade kits for your engine and you can get a local engine rebuilder to help you with or a challenging DIY depending on you skill level. They have various options ... A lot less than 15k.
